This week began by changing our clocks. It also has a full moon and ends with a Friday the 13th<\/sup>. (And we\u2019re expected to get through it without hand sanitizer or toilet paper and now no Roll Up The Rim\u2026\u2026)<\/p>\n

Tim Hortons says it is scrapping plans for its upcoming Roll Up The Rim contest due to the novel coronavirus outbreak. They\u2019re removing all of the contest’s paper cups over health concerns around staff handling items recently gripped and sipped by customers returning them for prizes. Tim Hortons does not identify COVID-19 as the catalyst, but says “the current public health environment” means “it’s not the right time for team members…to collect rolled up tabs that have been in people’s mouths.”<\/p>\n

The company says it will redistribute all $30 million worth of prizes to restaurant giveaways and a digital contest. On Friday, Tim Hortons and McDonald’s Canada became the latest to stop accepting reusable mugs brought in by customers amid concerns about the epidemic.<\/p>\n

By now we\u2019ve all heard the stories of people stockpiling mass quantities of essentials in case they need to isolate themselves due to the coronavirus outbreak. Apparently, one of the most essential essentials is toilet paper. The hoarding has gotten so bad in some places that one newspaper in Australia, printed an 8-page special section, complete with cut-lines, so people could use IT in an \u201cemergency\u201d. Some supermarkets have introduced a four-pack limit per customer. And TP is in such short supply in Hong Kong that there have been incidences of armed robbers stealing pallets of the stuff.<\/p>\n

So many stores are running out of hand sanitizer that recipes for how to make your own using vodka are going viral.\u00a0 David Spade and his panel talked about it on his show the other night.<\/p>\n

      \n<\/u>\u27a2 Better sleep:\u00a0 It takes five to seven days to adjust to the new time schedule, according to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and that disruption in sleep can lead to even bigger health issues. (And if you have young kids, you know it takes them even longer\u2026like until the next time change!)<\/p>\n

      \u27a2 Reduced risk of heart attack and stroke:\u00a0 DST changes are associated with a 24% increase in heart attacks and 8% increase in strokes on the Monday following the change. (So don\u2019t make me deal with [afternoon guy] today!)<\/p>\n

      \u27a2 Cost savings:\u00a0 Experts estimate the time change costs the United States around $430 million every year. The increase in heart attacks, workplace injuries, and lowered productivity all account for the added costs. (Plus, the time it takes to change all those clocks?)<\/p>\n

      \u27a2 Fewer auto accidents:\u00a0 The clock change is associated with an increase in fatal auto accidents on the Monday following the spring change. This is perhaps because of drivers who are tired after losing an hour of sleep. (That or they\u2019re trying to adjust the car clock\u2026!)<\/p>\n

      \u27a2 Changing crime rates: \u00a0Research has found that crime rates go down by 27% percent with the additional evening hour of sunlight gained on the day after the time change in the spring. But another study found that with the extra hour gained in the fall, assault rates were up by 3% percent on the Monday following the time change.

              A 29-year-old woman in Philadelphia named Toya Wimberly recently got engaged, and posted photos from her engagement party on Facebook.<\/p>\n

              And it turned out her best friend’s aunt recognized Toya’s DAD from back in the day.<\/p>\n

               <\/p>\n

              Her best friend is Ashley Thomas.\u00a0 They’ve been tight since the sixth grade . . . so about 17 years. Toya’s dad Ken used to joke Ashley was his other daughter, because she was constantly hanging out at his house.\u00a0 But it turns out he was RIGHT.<\/p>\n

               <\/p>\n

              As a kid, Ashley found out her dad wasn’t her biological father.\u00a0 And sadly, her mom passed away before telling her who her real dad was.<\/p>\n

               <\/p>\n

              But Ashley’s aunt was flipping through Toya’s engagement photos, and remembered Ken from when he used to DATE Ashley’s mom.<\/p>\n

              Apparently Ken didn’t know she’d gotten pregnant, but they DID date shortly before Ashley was born.\u00a0 So they took a DNA test, and found out he IS her dad.<\/p>\n

              Ken’s thrilled about it and says she’s always felt like part of the family.\u00a0 And Toya and Ashley say it doesn’t really change much, because they’ve always felt like sisters anyway.\u00a0 But they feel even closer now.<\/p>\n
