West Yorkshire police said a mechanical failure forced the brand-new Huracan Spyder \u0097 reportedly worth around $250,000 \u0097 to stop on the M1 highway last Wednesday. It was then \u0093hit from behind by an innocent motorist\u0094 in a van, police said. Neither driver was seriously injured in the accident. Police shared pictures of the wrecked car to Twitter with the hashtag #couldhavecried.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 This was certainly someone\u2019s lucky day. A California scuba diver known as \u201cMerman Mike\u201d recently plunged into the Sacramento River and was able to recover a lost ring worth $17,000. Mike Pelley, who has a YouTube channel, says he was approached by a man named Bill Fitty who heard about his underwater exploits and wanted his help finding a lost item. Pelley was able to find the lost ring on his second attempt. Fitty said he wants to reward Pelley with $1,500 to buy an underwater metal detector for future dives.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 <strong>D.L. in Orlando, but Florida has emerged as a COVID-19\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2020\/06\/29\/coronavirus-florida-latest-cases-covid-19-data\/\"><strong>hotspot<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0. . . and people are already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nba\/story\/_\/id\/29389139\/adam-silver-track-coronavirus-spread-stop-nba\"><strong>questioning<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0if the league will be able to keep its players inside the bubble.<\/p>\n<p><strong>____________________________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Did You Ever Run Out of Toilet Paper During the Pandemic?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For now, it seems like the Great Toilet Paper Shortage of 2020 is over and there&#8217;s enough supply to meet our filthy demand.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But when everybody was rushing out to stores and hoarding it, did you ever run out?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to a new survey, 14% of people say YES . . . at some point, their house did run out of toilet paper.\u00a0 81% said no, and 4% somehow don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The younger someone is, the more likely they are to have run out.\u00a0 26% of people 18 to 24 say their toilet paper supply dried up at some point during the past few months . . . versus just 6% of people over 55.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>STUDY: ALLERGIES COULD OFFER PROTECTION AGAINST CORONAVIRUS <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve been dealing with seasonal allergies lately you might consider yourself lucky.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Doctors and researchers have started sifting through statistics and discovered that the number of allergy and asthma patients who were severely affected by COVID-19 is lower than in the general population.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, a paper published in April by the U.S. and U.K. in April found that cells in the lungs of children and adults with allergic rhinitis (cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, caused by an allergy) and allergic asthma (asthma triggered by things such as cats, dust, or pollen) have lower numbers of ACE2 receptors&#8211; the same receptors that COVID-19 uses to enter the cells in our bodies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not clear why those with allergies have fewer ACE2 receptors. The researchers add that the most common medications used to prevent and treat asthma\u2014such as steroids and airway-dilating medicines\u2014may also help reduce the risk of a serious COVID-19 infection.<u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>THURSDAY JULY 2<sup>ND<\/sup> \u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>California shut down bars, theaters and indoor dining again yesterday (July 1st) in 19 counties where nearly three-quarters of the population lives, amid a surge in cases in the state. The number of confirmed cases in California has grown by nearly 50 percent in two weeks and hospitalizations are up 43 percent.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Arizona reported single-day records in new cases, ER visits, hospitalizations and deaths.<\/p>\n<p>Texas and Georgia set daily records for new cases, and Louisiana had its biggest daily increase since April.<\/p>\n<p>Beaches are closing in South Florida to keep away large crowds over the Fourth of July weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The return of indoor dining in New York City is being indefinitely postponed out of concern it could lead to the same kind of spike in cases now being seen in many other states.<\/p>\n<p>There have been more than 128,000 deaths in the U.S. as of last night, according to Johns Hopkins University&#8217;s count, and more than 2,686,000 confirmed cases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>Comedy legend Carl Reiner\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tv\/carl-reiner-dead-obit\/\">died<\/a>June 30<sup>th<\/sup> of natural causes.\u00a0 He was 98.\u00a0 He created &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Dick_Van_Dyke_Show\">The Dick Van Dyke Show<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0 Reiner appeared in it as TV show host, Alan Brady.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Trivia:\u00a0 Did you know that Carl was the original &#8220;Robbie Petrie?&#8221;\u00a0 His original idea of a TV writer with family at home was called &#8220;Head of the Family&#8221;.\u00a0 After the show wasn&#8217;t picked up, Reiner recrafted it with a new star, Dick Van Dyke as Rob Petrie.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>A carjacker in Santa Cruz, California\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ktvu.com\/news\/police-chase-ends-with-suspect-driving-off-cliff-into-ocean-in-santa-cruz\">tried<\/a>to run from the cops on Tuesday, and ended up driving off a cliff into the ocean.\u00a0 He somehow survived, and started climbing back up the cliff before cops arrested him.\u00a0 It happened on Highway 1, which has a lot of curves.\u00a0 A woman who saw him speed by said he was probably going way too fast.\u00a0 (Note:\u00a0 They interviewed her right next to where it happened, so the background noise is the ocean.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li>Now that casinos are reopening in Las Vegas, here&#8217;s comedian Sebastian Maniscalco talking about how he thought people were already embarrassing themselves there.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>SPORTS COMING BACK? <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Baseball&#8217;s minor leagues canceled their seasons Tuesday (June 30th) because of the pandemic, the first time it&#8217;s ever happened.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With the NBA season set to resume at the end of this month with all games played at the Walt Disney World Resort complex in Orlando,\u00a0Commissioner\u00a0<strong>Adam Silver<\/strong>\u00a0conceded that the spread of the virus among the NBA community could lead to a suspension of play again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Denver Nuggets said that they&#8217;ve\u00a0closed their practice facilities after three members of the NBA team&#8217;s traveling party &#8212; which includes players, coaches and staff &#8212; tested positive.\u00a0 Meanwhile, New Orleans Pelicans general manager\u00a0<strong>David Griffin<\/strong>\u00a0said three of the team&#8217;s players have tested positive for the virus and are in self-isolation.\u00a0The 22 NBA teams that will restart the season at the end of this month returned to their practice facilities last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>BRAD PAISLEY REACHES OUT TO REWARD &#8216;REGULAR HEROES&#8217;<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Brad Paisley<\/strong>\u00a0is at it again via Zoom, but this time he helped out a farmer and his wife in Kentucky. As part of the new Amazon docuseries\u00a0<em>Regular Heroes<\/em>, Brad FaceTimed\u00a0<strong>Daniel Hayden<\/strong>, who owns a cattle and chicken farm.\u00a0<em>Taste of Country<\/em>\u00a0reports the surprises just kept coming, starting with a year\u2019s supply of N95 masks to protect their health while working on the farm, as well as two matching belt buckles emblazoned with \u201cHayden Farms,&#8221; and finally, financial assistance for infertility treatments, an issue the couple has been struggling with.<\/p>\n<p>An emotional Hayden said, \u201cThat means the world to us. That is our number one priority \u2014 passing it on to the next generation . . . And for me, when I heard it, I first went \u2018What are people going to say about me when I\u2019m gone?\u2019 It\u2019s a song that I believe will challenge listeners when they hear it and they\u2019ll wonder about what their life\u2019s legacy is going to look like once they\u2019re gone.
