In the process, Notebomer\u2019s Waves for Wishes campaign raised more than $15,000 \u2013 and climbing \u2013 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n She set the record on her 14th birthday \u2013 the earliest anyone can legally swim across one of the Great Lakes. The previous record holder was aged 14 years and 21 days.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n With the cooperation of border agencies in both Canada and the U.S., she started her journey on the shores of Sturgeon Point, N.Y. \u2013 only touching the sand in the States \u2013 and crossed to Fort Erie\u2019s Crystal Beach.
