{"id":25922,"date":"2021-10-27T05:18:26","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T09:18:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfcofm\/?p=25922"},"modified":"2021-10-27T05:18:26","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T09:18:26","slug":"100-and-still-going-strong","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfcofm\/blogs\/good-news\/2021\/10\/100-and-still-going-strong\/","title":{"rendered":"100 And Still Going Strong"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harry Mitchell of Etobicoke recently turned 100 and celebrated his birthday surrounded by family and friends, gliding on the dance floor.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mitchell grew up in Dundee, Scotland, with five brothers and one sister. After serving in the Royal Air Force during Second World War\u00a0along with\u00a0four of his brothers, Mitchell decided to take a chance and start a new life in Toronto. He met his wife Marjorie, raised a family but shortly after their 25th wedding anniversary, Marjorie got sick with cancer.\u00a0Harry says the diagnosis came much too late. She died\u00a0at 63 and Harry found himself without a partner in life and on the dance floor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It was his son who gave his father a gentle nudge\u00a0to try dancing again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mitchell faced perhaps one of his toughest challenges\u00a0when he was 97.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He was out for a walk\u00a0in Cambridge, Ont., where he was living on his own, when he was hit by a car. He suffered a brain injury, a broken jaw and neck<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked if he has\u00a0any wisdom to share on staying young at heart, he says\u00a0this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;There&#8217;s no real secret you can&#8217;t discover for yourself,\u00a0if you&#8217;re content to take each day as it comes.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He plans to keep on dancing as long as he can and setting new challenges for himself.
