I’m not sure I needed science to tell me this, but they did it anyway:\u00a0 When it’s COLD outside, it makes us want to drink.\u00a0 And a new study out of the University of Pittsburgh is actually the first one to confirm it.<\/p>\n

The researchers found a direct connection between the weather in a city and the average alcohol intake.\u00a0 And it makes sense:\u00a0 When you get drunk, the alcohol increases the blood flow to your skin, which warms you up.<\/p>\n

But, of course, be careful:\u00a0 They also found that people in cold weather climates were more likely to have liver disease . . . and that’s also directly connected to alcohol.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0dead whale that washed ashore in eastern Indonesia and researchers found about 5.9 kilograms (13 pounds) of plastic waste in the animal’s stomach containing 115 plastic cups, four plastic bottles, 25 plastic bags, 2 flip-flops, a nylon sack and more than 1,000 other assorted pieces of plastic.<\/p>\n

They said it was not possible to determine if the plastic had caused the whale’s death because of the animal’s advanced state of decay.<\/p>\n

Indonesia is the world’s second-largest plastic polluter after China. It produces 3.2 million tons of mismanaged plastic waste a year, of which 1.29 million tons ends up in the ocean, the study said.<\/p>\n

The government is making efforts to reduce the use of plastic, including urging shops not to provide plastic bags for customers and teaching about the problem in schools nationwide to meet a government target of reducing plastic use by 70 per cent by 2025.<\/p>\n
