{"id":26660,"date":"2021-12-01T05:14:51","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T10:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfcofm\/?p=26660"},"modified":"2021-12-01T05:14:51","modified_gmt":"2021-12-01T10:14:51","slug":"smudge-the-blades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfcofm\/blogs\/good-news\/2021\/12\/smudge-the-blades\/","title":{"rendered":"Smudge The Blades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A First Nations-run business is celebrating the hockey community and sharing pride in First Nations culture through clever sayings on T-shirts, hoodies and hats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Smudge the Blades\u00a0was started by Harlan Kingfisher, a father of four from Saskatchewan who now lives with his family in Alberta.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kingfisher grew up playing\u00a0in First Nations hockey tournaments where members of the communities would show up to support the players from their bands. The brand launched two months ago at an online store\u00a0and has been gaining popularity among the hockey community.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Designs range from Cree syllabics that translate to &#8220;Smudge the blades,&#8221; to\u00a0sayings like &#8220;First Nation Hockey Sensation&#8221; and &#8220;Real deadly hockey auntie.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Kingfisher said the name\u00a0Smudge the Blades\u00a0comes from his own ritual before a hockey game where he would take sweetgrass and smudge his hockey stick and skates, to play well and get goals.\u00a0Kingfisher said\u00a0he wasn&#8217;t able to play hockey until he was older because it&#8217;s an expensive sport and he recognizes that as a\u00a0barrier for some youth.
