When Walter, a nine-year-old Labrador retriever, was surrendered to a rescue near Moncton last year, he weighed more than 150 pounds and struggled to even walk.<\/p>\n
April — a dog trainer — agreed to foster Walter and was determined to him shed some weight.<\/p>\n
They started slow with a little exercise and changed his food to a lower-calorie option.<\/p>\n
Walter was always willing to hit the road for a walk every time April grabbed the leash, but his favourite activities are swimming in the ocean and running on the beach.<\/p>\n
Now one year later, Walter has shed more than 60 pounds, and his overall health has also greatly improved.<\/p>\n
April and her family decided they couldn’t imagine life without Walter and have officially adopted him.<\/p>\n
