Hortense Anglin just got her chance to walk across the stage at York University to accept her bachelor of arts in religious studies… at the age of 85.<\/p>\n
She was inspired after watching her younger sister accept her degree from the school four years ago.<\/p>\n
Anglin graduated from high school in Jamaica more than half a century ago — she was going to continue her education, but put that on hold after her husband of 52 years fell ill.<\/p>\n
After he passed in 2014, it took her a few more years before she signed up for a bridging program.<\/p>\n
She then had to navigate online school when the pandemic hit.<\/p>\n
But the degree was just the first step in her journey — she says she already started an anthropology course this fall.<\/p>\n
