In the last year, Alyssa has collected almost 10,000 chip bags to make 200 blankets. She says it takes about an hour to finish a blanket.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How? \u00a0\u201cEach packet has to be opened out so it\u2019s flat and then washed\u2026Then you take 4 of them, put them under a piece of baking paper, and iron them together\u2026Finally, you sandwich the \u2026 packets between 2 sheets of clear plastic, and you use the iron again to seal that in place.\u201d Chip bags aren\u2019t easy to recycle, so Alyssa is happy to have found another use for them while helping others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She and her mom give the blankets \u2014 along with gloves, socks, toothpaste, and other essentials \u2014 to local organizations that distribute them to the homeless.
