It’s never too late to find love.<\/p>\n
89-year-old George Faulkner is best known as the first professional hockey player from Newfoundland and Labrador.<\/p>\n
He had been living at a Retirement Centre in Newfoundland for about a year before 85-year-old Barbara Paddock moved in just down the hall.<\/p>\n
Five days after settling in, while heading back to her room from breakfast, Barbara rounded a blind corner and collided with George.<\/p>\n
“I just stood there and it was just like my feet were glued to the floor. I wasn’t moving, he wasn’t moving and here we were waiting for somebody to move, or to speak, or to do something \u2014 get out of the way. So anyway, when we got our composure back, he said, ‘Let me give you a hug.'”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
After that encounter, they became fast friends and started spending more time together.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0few months later George decided it was time to take the relationship further.<\/p>\n
“Barbara was in the bathroom \u2026 and I was sitting back just waiting for her to come out and I said, ‘I’m going to propose to her. So I got down on one knee \u2026 and when she came out, I asked her if she would marry me.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
After a short pause, Barbara said yes. But then George couldn’t get back up because of a knee injury he suffered while playing hockey.<\/p>\n
Last week the two were married, and Barbara says that first hug sealed the deal.”That hug did it.
