Fake eclipse glasses are back.\u00a0 People selling them online was also a problem before the last\u00a0 eclipse in 2017.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If they’re not legit, you\u00a0<\/span>could<\/b><\/a>\u00a0BURN YOUR EYEBALLS OUT.\u00a0 It can cause\u00a0<\/span>permanent damage<\/b><\/a>\u00a0to your retinas.<\/span><\/p>\n

If you’re not fully confident in the glasses you bought, here’s what to do.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“Scientific America”<\/i><\/b>\u00a0says there’s a three-step test you can do to make sure your eclipse glasses are legit.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Put them on indoors and look around.<\/b> You should only be able to see very bright lights.\u00a0 Like a halogen bulb, or an iPhone flashlight shined directly at you.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Take them outside, but don’t look at the sun yet.<\/b> It should be too dark to see distant hills, trees, or even the ground.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. Take a quick glance at the sun.<\/b> It shouldn’t hurt at all.\u00a0 You should be able to comfortably look at the sun and see a bright, sharp-edged disk.\u00a0 If it feels hard at all, stop immediately.\u00a0 And only do it if your glasses pass the other two tests first.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
