Thomas Rhett recently sat down for an interview on mental health to encourage people to have more open conversations about it.<\/p>\n
He talked about one of the biggest battles of his career… the HATE he got for his second album, “Tangled Up”.<\/p>\n
It came out in 2015 and some didn’t think it was “country” enough.<\/p>\n
He said he was trying to grow as an artist by adding “a little more pop and R&B,” but it was “not received well by the public.” Specifically, people on social media.<\/p>\n
But going through it with his wife and therapist helped him get back to a healthy headspace, where he could tell himself, “This is who I am, this is the kind of music that I make,” and if some people don’t like it, “that’s okay.”<\/p>\n
He says deciding to stay true to himself has helped him deal with similar situations since. Quote, “I’ve got a better shield when the arrows come.”<\/p>\n
That second album ended up being one of his most successful, by the way. It had his biggest hit to date, “Die a Happy Man”.<\/p>\n
