The researchers found that Antarctica has lost almost 278 billion tons of ice per year since 2009, while in the 1980s it was losing 44 billion tons a year. Victim Grabs the Guy&#8217;s Phone, Uses It to Negotiate and Get His Car Back<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A 33-year-old restaurant manager in St. Louis named Jonathan Neukomm got carjacked on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He was sitting in his car on his break Monday night, when the carjacker walked up with a gun and told him to get out.\u00a0 So he did.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Then he tried to reason with the guy and told him it wasn&#8217;t worth it.\u00a0 And the guy responded by trying to SHOOT him in the leg.\u00a0 But luckily his gun jammed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At that point, Jonathan decided to throw his keys on the ROOF of the restaurant, because he knew he could go up and get them later.\u00a0 Which was pretty clever.\u00a0 But unfortunately, he didn&#8217;t throw them far enough.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They ended up on the ground next to the building, and the carjacker grabbed them.\u00a0 But while he was rushing over, he dropped his phone, and Jonathan grabbed it.\u00a0 Then they started negotiating.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Police probably could have used the phone to I.D. the guy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not clear if he realized that or not.\u00a0 But he agreed to trade the car for the phone, then ran off, and police are still looking for him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0_________________________________________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>TODAY\u2019S GOOD NEWS<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A guy named Tim Curfman was taking his trash out last Monday in Alexandria, Minnesota.\u00a0\u00a0<em><strong>(About 125 miles northwest of Minneapolis.)<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 And his four-year-old black lab named Midnight was with him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This was just before the polar vortex hit.\u00a0 But we&#8217;re talking about Minnesota.\u00a0 So it was still one-below-zero outside.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, Tim noticed Midnight was acting weird.\u00a0 Her ears were perked up, and she doesn&#8217;t usually do that.\u00a0 So even though it was freezing, he decided to follow her.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And she led him right to his 87-year-old neighbor Noreen, who&#8217;d fallen in the snow, and couldn&#8217;t get up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tim got her inside, and his wife put her in warm clothes.\u00a0 It turned out she&#8217;d been out there for over 30 minutes.\u00a0 But she must have been bundled up pretty good, because she didn&#8217;t end up with frostbite or any serious injuries.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>She says they definitely saved her life though.\u00a0 And Tim told the local news he rewarded Midnight with an excessive number of wrote \u201cThe Hidden Life of Trees: What They Feel, How They Communicate\u201d, says that not only are trees able to count, learn, remember, and nurse sick neighbors, they can accommodate their Eighteen-year-old shelter dog, Poochie, was adopted by the Bryans after its owner surrendered it due to becoming allergic.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Facebook post by the shelter, \u201cWe are so thrilled for Poochie and know he is in great hands. Their adopting this sweet old guy will allow us the chance to save yet another . . . Unfortunately, he won&#8217;t be able to return home to Nashville in time for Valentine&#8217;s Day, but he says he and Caroline might just have a hot date on the West Coast.\u00a0[\u201cFor Valentine\u2019s Day this year, I\u2019m working every day around Valentine\u2019s. I\u2019m doing Idol. Actually,\u00a0<em>Idol\u00a0<\/em>is filming on Valentine\u2019s Day, and so I have approached Caroline about maybe flying out to L.A. I think we\u2019re gonna have a short taping day at Idol, so maybe we can have a Valentine\u2019s dinner at one of her favorite restaurants in Los Angeles.
