In a joint interview for People,<\/a> Vince Gill and Amy Grant opened up about their quarter-century together.<\/p>\n

The two musicians just released their new holiday album, When I Think of Christmas, ahead of their annual Christmas residency at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, which began son November 29.<\/p>\n

Gill revealed that in the early days of his friendship with Grant \u2013 which would eventually blossom into marriage years later \u2013 he wrote a tune about her.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was writing songs with a buddy of mine, and he said, \u2018What do you want to write about today?\u2019” I said, \u2018Let\u2019s write a song about Amy Grant\u2019s smile.\u2019 He said, \u2018Do you even know her?\u2019 I said, \u2018Not very well, but she\u2019s sure got a great smile.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The romantic tune that he and Pete Wasner wrote, \u201cWhenever You Come Around,\u201d would become one of Gill\u2019s biggest hits.<\/p>\n

Though when Grant heard it, she had no clue she inspired the song. \u201cAll I could think of was, \u2018Goll, lucky girl,\u2019\u201d and she remembers only learning it was written about her years later.<\/p>\n
