Canadian country artist Josh Ross has found himself in the middle of some unexpected controversy after a moment on stage in the U.S. didn\u2019t sit well with many of his fans back home.<\/p>\n
It happened June 13th at the Tailgate N\u2019 Tallboys festival in Bloomington, Indiana.<\/p>\n
During his set, Ross took a moment between songs, waved an American flag, and told the crowd,<\/p>\n
\u201cFun fact\u2014real quick\u2014I\u2019m Canadian\u2026 I moved to the best [bleep] country in the world, and I love America!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The crowd roared and broke into a loud \u201cUSA! USA!\u201d chant, and Ross tossed the flag out to fans.<\/p>\n

The moment went viral on social media, and it didn\u2019t land well with everyone, especially his Canadian audience. Some saw it as a slap in the face to the country that raised him.<\/p>\n
One fan tweeted, \u201cCanadians supported you from the beginning and were proud to have you represent our flag. Disappointing.\u201d Another posted, \u201cKeep him. You can have him, lol\u2014we don\u2019t want him.\u201d<\/p>\n
As the backlash grew, Ross took to TikTok with a video to clear the air.<\/p>\n
He said he\u2019s proud to be Canadian, and also proud of the life he\u2019s built in the U.S., where he\u2019s lived for more than five years. He explained that the clip making the rounds was just a small moment without any context, and that he never meant to insult Canada.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel like I\u2019m always representing Canada no matter where I go\u2026 I\u2019ve got family on both sides of the border, and I love both countries.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite the stir, Ross is still set to perform on the national stage\u2014he\u2019s on the lineup for the official Canada Day concert in Ottawa, organized by Heritage Canada.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year, Ross also won Country Album of the Year at the Junos and used his moment on stage to say, \u201cFriends are better than enemies,\u201d and reminded fans how proud he is to be Canadian.<\/p>\n
