Zach Top is the reigning ACM New Male Artist of the Year.<\/p>\n

But he just dropped a quote about Morgan Wallen that’s sure to rile up a few fans.<\/p>\n

“I got a lot of respect for what Morgan Wallen does . . . It’s not my cup of tea musically, obviously, but it’s him. I can’t sing ‘Whiskey Glasses’ and have a hit on it. It’s not me.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

While I’m sure he meant that as a compliment, it’s clear that Zach doesn’t love pop music, and Morgan has a lot of pop influences and trap beats.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with “The New York Times”<\/a>, Zach made it clear that his sound isn’t some planned throwback either . . . it’s just who he is.<\/p>\n

“There was never any calculated decision to be like, ‘Hey, you know what? It’s the ’90s thing’ . . . When I write and sing, this is what comes out. I’m obviously influenced by that stuff, but I went way further back. It was Merle Haggard, George Jones, Hank Williams . . . back to the ’40s and ’50s.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
