Officials in Mexico’s second-largest city say a freak storm Sunday that dumped more than\u00a0a metre\u00a0of hail on parts of the Guadalajara area damaged hundreds of homes.<\/p>\n
Pictures show cars buried up to their windows in hail. The government brought in heavy machinery to clear streets and dig out businesses. Streets looked like rivers of ice.<\/p>\n
The hail clogged drainage systems, leading to intense flooding in places.<\/p>\n
The storm also partially buried tractor-trailers and cars, bringing families out on\u00a0to the streets to play in ice piled high despite the summer heat.<\/p>\n
Guadalajara usually sees average temperatures in June of around 31 C and following the storm it went to 27C.<\/p>\n
