Since then, her family has learned that her hearing implants need to be upgraded, with the left one currently not working at all. Both implants are now obsolete and unrepairable and cost $13,000 per ear to replace, with none of the upgrades covered by insurance.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With funding from the government, the out of pocket expense is $6,500.<\/p>\n<p>One of\u00a0Moninger\u2019s neighbours, Tasha Dionne, was behind the \u201cHelp Alaina Hear\u201d fundraiser on Saturday. According to Dionne, a total of\u00a0$6,400 was raised within a matter of hours. Dozens came out to show their support for the cause including the\u00a0Wallaceburg Bantam Girls hockey team, which donated $400. Frank Sereno posted pictures on Facebook of a slice of birthday cake with a number 3 candle placed inside the pothole, presumably to indicate that he and his neighbors had been enjoying the pothole\u2019s company for three years. A spokesperson for Kansas City\u2019s Public Works Department has since indicated that crews were on Sereno\u2019s block recently to finally make the repair.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 A first-time flyer tried a new method of boarding a plane at an airport in Turkey. A viral video shows her climbing onto a luggage conveyor belt, reportedly thinking it would transport her to the plane. The would-be passenger checked in her bags at Istanbul Airport, but instead of heading to her terminal, she proceeded to climb onto the conveyor belt as terminal attendants and other passengers looked on. She promptly fell onto her backside as the belt rolled forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u27a2 Police in Spain arrested a man who allegedly tried to smuggle half a kilo of cocaine under his over-sized toupee at Barcelona\u2019s international airport. Authorities said the man appeared to be extremely nervous when he arrived on a flight from Bogota, Colombia. They were also puzzled by his disproportionately large hairpiece. When he was asked to remove the wig, a package of\u00a0cocaine was reportedly found stuck to his head. The drugs have an estimated street value of\u00a0$34,000.<br \/>\n<strong>________________________________________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Woman launches petition to fine Amber Alert complainers<\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong>An online petition that calls for fines to be levied against people who call 911 to complain about Amber Alerts is gaining momentum. More than 60,000 have signed the petition.<\/p>\n<p>Following the most recent Amber Alert, issued earlier this month when two boys went missing in Newmarket with their grandfather, police were forced to defend their decision to send out the emergency notification during the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>So far this year, Amber Alerts have been issued on five separate occasions in Ontario. Four resulted in the safe return of children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A homeowner in the GTA called 911 to complain about the length of time an ice-cream truck was parked outside, Peel police say.<\/p>\n<p>The call was made on Saturday, which was the hottest day in Toronto so far this year. &#8220;It&#8217;s hot outside which means the ice cream trucks will probably be out. If the ice cream truck stops in front of your house and is there for a bit due to all the children, it&#8217;s still not a reason to call 911 to complain,&#8221; Peel police said in a tweet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0___________________________________________________________________________________________<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>STUDY: SWEARING REALLY DOES HELP WITH PAIN <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Next time you stub your toe, go ahead and drop and swear if you want to it could help ease your pain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Researchers from England compared real and made-up expletives to see if there was a link between pain tolerance and uttering one or the other.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They found saying a made-up expletive did not alleviate pain in the same way that swearing for real did.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Study leader and language expert Dr. Richard Stephens explains, &#8220;It seems swearing has a strong emotional connection, and this is likely due to the circumstances in which we first hear swear words. He took some serious blows. We did drag him across the bar. We would not light his crotch on fire. He wanted to do it.
