The heavier you are, the more you compress the spring, which makes the dial go around to show your weight. But scales contain lots of little mechanisms, which can easily get bent and throw the measurement [off.] What’s more, most are mass produced so you can’t guarantee you’re buying a precision machine.”

He says electronic scales work in a similar manner, and have a flexible beam inside that bends a bit when you stand on it– but both types of scales can deteriorate with wear and time.

To keep your scale functioning properly he suggests leaving it somewhere in your home where the temperature is consistent, don’t get it wet, keep it laying on a flat surface, and be sure you weigh yourself at the same time each day to get the most accurate reading. To be absolutely sure of your weight you should be weighed by your doctor.
______________________________________________________________________________

TODAY’S GOOD NEWS
An 11-year-old Wisconsin boy was rescued from a storm sewer earlier this week after a firefighter saw his finger sticking out of a manhole cover.

The boy had been playing with his friends in a flooded drainage ditch in Harrison after heavy rains had passed through and he got swept under the water and into a culvert that led to the storm sewer.

Rescuers were trying to predict where the boy might be flowing through the sewer system. But believe it or not, there are FOUR two-digit numbers that have NEVER been worn.

They are: 80, 86, 89, and 92.

Coming into the season, there were SIX unused numbers, but then relief pitcher Adam Cimber took one off the board, when he became the first to ever use #90. Then, relief pitcher Pat Neshek became the first to wear #93.

And now that the list of unique, unused numbers is dwindling, it wouldn’t be surprising if players started snapping them up.

Back when players first started wearing numbers, it wasn’t just a free-for-all. In Babe Ruth’s day, the jersey numbers corresponded to what order they batted in the lineup . . . so Babe was #3, and Lou Gehrig was #4.

Later, they were assigned based on what position a player played. But after a bunch of numbers were retired, that tradition was abandoned. Players have been choosing their own numbers since the ’70s and ’80s.

______________________________________________________________________________

RANDOM REPORT
1.
