Feel Good Friday – Set Some Goals

Every week we team up with the Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent to share ways you can continue to take care of yourself and your mental health.  We share different things you can do to FEEL GOOD!  Even as we continue living in a pandemic world which has changed so much.

Do you set goals for yourself?

This week is all about goal setting.

I think we all have things we want to change in our lives but it can be overwhelming or intimidating because we don’t always know where to start.  Goal setting can help you identify where you want to go and the steps you need to take to get there.  Try setting S.MA.R.T GOALS.

S.M.A.R.T. GOALS ARE

  • Specific

  • Measurable

  • Attainable

  • Relevant

  • Time-Bound

As you complete your goals, make sure you check them off your list.  This can be a helpful reminder of all that you have accomplished.

Be PATIENT!

It can take time to meet goals.  Hang in there and stick with it.  And be sure to praise yourself for the goals you were able to meet.

Having something to aim at is important for mental health. In fact, goal setting and accomplishment can help release dopamine, the “feel good” neurotransmitter. For instance, your brain receives a spike in dopamine if you promise yourself you’re going to work out and then you actually do! It feels good to check things off your to do list!
