To This Day, I Still Can’t Stand Peoples Facination With It Or….

…the desire to touch it….my hair…from the time I was a little girl, people wanted to touch my curly, kinky hair.  And I HATED them touching it!!!

My Mom never wanted someone to judge her daughters on their appearance at first glance…

Maybe it was pride, vanity or just quietly proving a point…My sister and I, and eventually our brother never went out of the house without looking our best; clothing in place, hair plaited. No one could think the Morgan kids were unkempt.

Because of my heritage, getting your “Hair DONE” in the morning wasn’t as simple as running a comb or brush through it; it took time & plaits. My Mom would actually do our hair the night before, so school prep wasn’t chaos in the morning.  If Dad was on deck because Mom was away at night school, it was a simpler version of what she did, but it was still no hair out of place. You might not understand until you watch “Hair Love”; it won the Best Animated Short Film At 2020 Oscars.

On a side note: I never minded when babies wanted to gnaw on my dreds….they were innocent and didn’t know better. And it was a comfort to them. My hair is My Crown. As an adult, I finally LOVE my hair.
