Juliana Troiani
February 4, 2023 9:16 amI found this poem and tweeked it a bit. It was everything I wanted to say but didn’t know how to.
Dear Juliana,
The day I heard the news of you,
My heart smiled because I knew
I would always have a child to simply love,
With all the best your Aunt’s made of.
I would brighten to think of you,
And imagine all the things we’d do.
I’d invent silly sounds and faces,
And you and I would visit many places.
You’d paint pictures just for me
We would dance, sing and party!
I’d glow from the twinkle in your eyes,
Each time your special Aunt stopped by.
You’d lead me by the hand to play,
Insist I never leave, but stay.
You’d love to call me on the phone,
I’d marvel at how much you’d grown.
I’d tell tales from your parents’ youth,
Cherish photos of you with a missing tooth.
When you were born, I welcomed you.
You were our family’s dream come true.
A little angel now ours to hold,
Your Aunt’s heart blossoms and unfolds.
I was love-struck, I held you tight.
Your new life made the world seem right.
Like a big sister and best friend,
I’d be there for you again and again.
The day I hear the news of you,
My heart smiled, because I knew,
A friend to always simply love,
And give the best your Aunt’s made of.
I know time will inevitably turn you into an adult, and my role as your Aunt will evolve as you mature. I want you to know that no matter your age, I’ll always play with you, my arms will never grow tired of your hugs and my door is always open for a visit from you. Thank you for making my life fuller.
Love ZIZi
