I bet you didn’t realize that some days are really hard when you have a job like mine.<\/p>\n
Where you’re required, and expected, to show up and sound happy and cheerful and bright. Even when you’re not.<\/p>\n
I bet you didn’t realize some days we are just trying to keep it together.\u00a0 Before that mic goes on.\u00a0 In between songs.\u00a0 Trying to regroup.\u00a0 Trying to focus.\u00a0 Trying not to think about things that hurt us.<\/p>\n
This pandemic living has been tough on everybody.\u00a0 It’s affected us in so many different ways.<\/p>\n
One thing that we have come to realize – we really<\/em> need people in our lives.\u00a0 We need connection.\u00a0 It’s been a lonely, isolating time for sure.\u00a0 Working from home has been nice, but it’s sure made it hard.<\/p>\n You think you won’t miss going “to work” and co-workers.\u00a0 Or the drive.\u00a0 But you do.\u00a0 You really do.<\/p>\n Then there are days like today, that are a reminder of something even bigger.<\/p>\n Those close to me know my story.\u00a0 YOU – might not.<\/p>\n 30 years ago today my life changed forever.\u00a0 My mom, brother and sister were killed in a car accident.<\/p>\n The unthinkable happened.\u00a0 To me.\u00a0 To my family.\u00a0\u00a0One summer day in 1990,\u00a0 half my family went out the door to pick up dinner and a movie, and they never came back.<\/p>\n 30 years later, you would think it would be somehow easier.<\/p>\n But the moment you open your eyes on the anniversary day, you feel it.\u00a0 The weight of the day.\u00a0 It’s heavy.<\/p>\n There is something about this day on the calendar that takes me right back in time to that moment when that 18 year old girls life changed forever.\u00a0 I remember every detail, even though I wish so much I could forget.<\/p>\n It’s part of my story.\u00a0 It’s part of who I am.\u00a0 It’s helped me grow.\u00a0 \u00a0It’s made me realize that life is short,\u00a0 tomorrow is never guaranteed, and you should never take anybody for granted.<\/p>\n I think there are events in life that teach us and remind us just how valuable people are. Because we forget.<\/p>\n We hold grudges.\u00a0 We wait for someone else to make the first move, apologize, or do something.<\/p>\n We make excuses. We avoid phone calls.\u00a0 Forget to call or text back.<\/p>\n A friend of mine from high school passed away this weekend.\u00a0 50 years old.\u00a0 She suffered a stroke.\u00a0 I sat in shock for the rest of the weekend.\u00a0 Thinking about times she messaged me or reached out.\u00a0 She had been trying to get our old high school “gang” together for one more beach day.\u00a0 To celebrate friendship and old times.\u00a0 We never did.\u00a0 Regret is HARD.<\/p>\n Why do we wait? Why do we think we all have time?<\/p>\n This pandemic that we have gone through has been a learning experience.\u00a0 It’s forced us to slow down and reflect.\u00a0 It’s made us realize the people in our lives matter more than we realized.<\/p>\n I know how easily those people we are closest to can be taken away.\u00a0 For my family, it was the fraction of a second that changed our lives forever.<\/p>\n We have a chance to change things for the better.\u00a0 To keep those connections strong.\u00a0 To nurture relationships.<\/p>\n As we start to see things re-open, and life return to almost normal – I hope that we all remember to put people first.\u00a0 I hope we stop making excuses.\u00a0 I hope that we continue to stay connected, and reach out, and never take those people for granted.<\/p>\n Because tomorrow isn’t promised to anybody.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I bet you didn’t realize that some days are really hard when you have a job like mine.
