How are you feeling about all that is happening?<\/p>\n
In so many ways it feels like we are on the edge of normal.\u00a0 In other ways it’s just a reminder of how far from normal we are.<\/p>\n
I went out with my 14 year old last night in search of masks to get us through.\u00a0 \u00a0So odd really.\u00a0 To be shopping for masks the way we’ve shopped for shoes or bathing suits.\u00a0 “This one is cute.\u00a0 I like the colour on this one. ”\u00a0 Strange indeed.\u00a0 And we weren’t alone.\u00a0 There were a number of people we encountered last night doing the same thing.\u00a0 With the mandatory mask by-law now in place for Sarnia, people![\"\"](\"https:\/\/storage.briwebapp.net\/2020\/07\/ac5766e9-ew-covid.jpg\")
\u00a0were out last night to find something to wear.<\/p>\n
I admit, some of the masks were fun – ranging from fun expressions like “OMG and WHAM” to different colours and designs.\u00a0 Bands\/ artists\/ musicians\/ even tv shows getting in and I guess cashing in –\u00a0on the need for masks.\u00a0 Just search online and you’re sure to find someone local who is making and selling masks as well.\u00a0 Some even willing to give them away to make sure everyone that needs one has one.\u00a0 My youngest is adjusting better than I expected to the idea of always wearing a mask, even going back to school.<\/p>\n
How are you feeling about back to school?<\/p>\n
I have mixed feelings.\u00a0 I’ve been talking about it at great length with my kids because I want them to feel comfortable going back to the classroom. I’m trying to get my head around how this school year might look.<\/p>\n
I know we need to go back to normal.\u00a0 I know our kids need to go back to school.\u00a0 But how is this going to work?<\/p>\n
My youngest is ready to start grade nine.\u00a0 Looking forward to a change from elementary school.\u00a0 New people.\u00a0 New faces.\u00a0 Even if you can only see above the mask.<\/p>\n
My oldest is hesitant.\u00a0 \u00a0Asking so many questions.\u00a0 “How is this going to work?\u00a0 How will we stay six feet apart on a bus?\u00a0 How will we avoid each other in an already crowded hallway?\u00a0 How will we have enough room in a classroom to keep desks away?”\u00a0 \u00a0She is asking to continue with online learning.\u00a0 \u00a0It’s what she says will make her feel most comfortable.\u00a0 Almost easier to keep isolating, than having to adjust so much to a new way of learning in the classroom.\u00a0 No cafeteria?\u00a0 No library?\u00a0 Eating in the classroom?\u00a0 That’s sometimes harder on our kids than what they’ve just gone through.<\/p>\n
Another step.\u00a0 Another adjustment.\u00a0 Another “new reality”.\u00a0 \u00a0 An entire classroom of kids in masks.\u00a0 Led by a teacher in a mask.\u00a0 Strange, isn’t it?<\/p>\n
I guess we will adjust and adapt just like we’ve had to with every other change we’ve gone through.<\/p>\n
I know that wearing a mask for me, in a short period of time, is hard.\u00a0 I can’t imagine my kids sitting in a hot classroom for an entire day wearing one.<\/p>\n
At least if I’m going to wear one, I found one that I thought was cute – hearts.\u00a0 Hearts for love and kindness and appreciation and support.<\/p>\n
Let’s do this Sarnia.<\/p>\n
One more adjustment.<\/p>\n
One more big change.<\/p>\n
