It’s a moment in history I will never forget and I’m sure you can easily say the same.<\/p>\n
I can tell you where I was when the news broke.<\/p>\n
It was unthinkable. Unimaginable.<\/p>\n
At first, it seemed to be a weird accident.\u00a0 What some thought was a small plane flying too low.\u00a0 Then it hit the tower.\u00a0 \u00a0And then another plane.\u00a0 And the world forever changed from that moment on.<\/p>\n
What came in the next hours was hard to comprehend.\u00a0 Even to watch it unfold on the television screen seemed unreal.\u00a0 That stuff happened in big Hollywood movies.\u00a0 \u00a0Not in New York City.<\/p>\n
I was standing in the newsroom, just coming in to start my shift for the day.\u00a0 Back then we didn’t have the internet and our own computers and desks.\u00a0 We shared a newsroom computer, and got our story ideas from the “wire” in the newsroom.\u00a0 A news service.<\/p>\n
It started out a regular day.\u00a0 For everyone.\u00a0 And turned tragic for thousands.<\/p>\n
I can’t imagine the horror they must have felt.\u00a0 The realization of what was happening.\u00a0 The families of those left behind.\u00a0 Searching for answers.<\/p>\n
For those left behind, this day is a reminder of that day and that pain.\u00a0 \u00a0Pain that will never go away.<\/p>\n
I think these days serve as reminders for all of us.\u00a0 Tomorrow is never promised.\u00a0 \u00a0Nothing in life is guaranteed.<\/p>\n
Life is short.<\/p>\n
The world needs kindness and compassion.<\/p>\n
We need to stand with and for each other.\u00a0 Love others.\u00a0 Be kind.<\/p>\n
9\/11 might have happened 19 years ago and we might have moved on from the stories and pictures and headlines – but for so many, this day is always top of mind.\u00a0 The pain is still fresh.\u00a0 The feelings are still raw.\u00a0 My heart goes out to you.<\/p>\n
Today we remember.\u00a0 We remember the nearly three thousand lives lost.\u00a0 The families, the loved ones left behind.\u00a0 We remember and honour those who survived it – the first responders, and other heroes who stepped in.\u00a0 Those who were injured.<\/p>\n
Never forget.<\/p>\n
