Do you feel SAFE online?\u00a0 Do you feel MANIPULATED?\u00a0 CONTROLLED?<\/p>\n
I watched a documentary last night that has me questioning EVERYTHING and makes me want to give up everything I do online.<\/p>\n
I’ve taken “breaks” from social media.\u00a0 I’ve tried deleting the apps from my phone to avoid the temptation.\u00a0 Last year I went a week.\u00a0 It was like giving up sugar.\u00a0 It was incredibly hard, the cravings were unbearable, and my head hurt from the detox.<\/p>\n
I wish I could say I was kidding.\u00a0 I HATE that it’s so hard to quit.\u00a0 I HATE that something keeps calling me back.<\/p>\n
And after watching this documentary on Netflix last night – I understand why.<\/p>\n
According to “The Social Dilemma”<\/a> – we are being manipulated.\u00a0 BIG TIME.\u00a0 Entire teams of engineers are constantly at work.\u00a0 Their entire job is to use your psychology against you.<\/p>\n Everything you’re doing online is being watched, tracked, monitored, recorded and all that data is being used against us.\u00a0 Controlling us.<\/p>\n Making big money for the companies and causing so many problems in our world.<\/p>\n Scary, right?<\/p>\n They are designing it to tempt us and to get us to engage.\u00a0 The more we scroll, like, comment, and post – the more data they collect on us.<\/p>\n The more data they collect the more money they make.<\/p>\n They are tricking us. Deceiving us.<\/p>\n Rewarding us with likes and notifications.<\/p>\n We’re addicted.\u00a0 And it’s all done on purpose.<\/p>\n The technology that CONNECTS us also CONTROLS us.<\/p>\n SCARY.<\/p>\n “If everyone’s entitled to their own facts, there’s no need for people to interact”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “We have less control over who we are and what we really believe”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n “…technology creates mass chaos, loneliness, more polarization, election hacking, more inability to focus on the real issues – “we’re toast”<\/strong><\/em> <\/p><\/blockquote>\n I’ve joked about giving up Facebook in the past. Mostly because I realized just how much time I WASTE scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.\u00a0 \u00a0I knew I would miss those posts from my family and close friends.\u00a0 I’d miss sharing “life” with them.<\/p>\n Now, I wonder.<\/p>\n Each of us are fed different “feeds”.\u00a0 \u00a0 Strange to think about isn’t it?<\/p>\n To think there is something manipulating what we see.<\/p>\n What are your thoughts on this?
