{"id":11514,"date":"2020-10-16T15:20:44","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T19:20:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=11514"},"modified":"2020-10-16T15:20:44","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T19:20:44","slug":"feel-good-friday-the-power-of-meditation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/10\/feel-good-friday-the-power-of-meditation\/","title":{"rendered":"Feel Good Friday &#8211; The Power Of Meditation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s a Feel Good Friday &#8211; together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lambtonkent.cmha.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent<\/a>.\u00a0 \u00a0Sharing ways that you can look after yourself.\u00a0 Your mental health.\u00a0 Sharing things you can do now to help you &#8220;feel good&#8221;.\u00a0 Because boy oh boy &#8211; do we need the help.<\/p>\n<p>More and more people are struggling right now.\u00a0 This pandemic is taking it&#8217;s toll on our emotional and mental health.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a struggle to feel good when it feels like so many things are happening that don&#8217;t feel so good.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s Feel Good tip is meditation.<\/p>\n<p>I used to laugh at the thought.\u00a0 \u00a0I pictured someone sitting on the floor, legs crossed, candles burning, chanting something to calm the mind.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe I just never thought I could DO it.\u00a0 So I avoided it.<\/p>\n<p>To me the idea of meditation means being quiet and focused.<\/p>\n<p>I have trouble with that.\u00a0 I have trouble sitting quietly with my own thoughts.\u00a0 Because that&#8217;s when those big &#8220;a-ha&#8221; moments (as Oprah calls them) come to you.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when you get real.\u00a0 That&#8217;s when you learn some stuff about yourself that might not be too comfortable.\u00a0 Right?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve learned over the years that those moments are worth feeling awkward and uncomfortable.\u00a0 And now more than ever, we need those moments.\u00a0 It&#8217;s easy to stay distracted.\u00a0 To ignore the thoughts and feelings.<\/p>\n<p>But I am going to challenge you today to do the uncomfortable.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent share this &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em><strong>&#8220;Meditation is the act of paying attention to the present moment and helps us focus and re-direct our thoughts. It\u2019s a great opportunity to take a break from our fast-paced life and daily stressors and truly connect with the hear-and-now. There are many benefits of meditation, including help to reduce stress and anxiety, improving sleep, and positively impacting our mental health in general.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>There are many free mindfulness apps that you can download right on your phone or easily access online at any time.
