{"id":12174,"date":"2020-12-03T13:58:17","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T18:58:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=12174"},"modified":"2020-12-03T14:25:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-03T19:25:33","slug":"the-view-from-here-throwback-thursday-flashbacks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/12\/the-view-from-here-throwback-thursday-flashbacks\/","title":{"rendered":"The View From Here &#8211; Throwback Thursday Flashbacks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I love Throwback Thursdays.\u00a0 I love all the memories that come with it.<\/p>\n<p>This picture showed up on my Facebook page today and I couldn&#8217;t help but smile.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an oldie, that&#8217;s for sure.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know what year.\u00a0 Early 80&#8217;s?\u00a0 Maybe.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s like a treasure hunt.\u00a0 So many clues to life at the time revealed in the picture.\u00a0 The colours.\u00a0 The curtains.\u00a0 The mugs on the counter. My mom loved her mug racks. (smile) And orange I guess. (smile)<\/p>\n<p>That shirt with my name on the back.<\/p>\n<p>Do you remember when that was a big deal?\u00a0 I remember going to a place, picking out a shirt, and then picking out the decal to be ironed on.\u00a0 Having your name in letters on the back, in that velvety type material, was just a bonus.<\/p>\n<p>A period in time when there was roller skating at the rink on Friday nights.\u00a0 Trying so hard to skate backwards like everyone else and not fall down.\u00a0 Holding on to that wall for dear life.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday morning cartoons with a big bowl of cereal.\u00a0 Unless we were bowling.\u00a0 That was something I did for a while.\u00a0 The only sport my parents could get me interested in and even that they had to force me.\u00a0 Or maybe bribe me with a promise of quarters to play Pac-Man in the arcade and a chocolate bar when I was done.\u00a0 Turns out I was actually really good at it.\u00a0 Who knew.<\/p>\n<p>Funny how one picture can trigger so many memories.<\/p>\n<p>Grade six?\u00a0 Maybe seven. A lifetime ago and like yesterday all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>What do you remember the most from childhood?<\/p>\n<p>A favourite show?\u00a0 Cartoon?\u00a0 Television show?\u00a0 I remember The Flintstones on my lunch hour.\u00a0 Leave it to Beaver.\u00a0 All in the Family.\u00a0 I remember my grandma babysitting us and watching that as she waited for my grampa to pick her up.\u00a0 Friday nights were the Dukes of Hazzard if I remember right.\u00a0 The only night we were allowed chips and pop.\u00a0 Living large.\u00a0 Ha ha ha.<\/p>\n<p>What is your favourite childhood memory?\u00a0 Do you have a favourite shirt?\u00a0 \u00a0I swear, I still remember standing at the counter trying to decide what to put on my shirt.\u00a0 I think I still remember the smell of the room.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s to Throwback Thursdays and all the crazy memories it brings back, and for making some of us feel older than we&#8217;d like.
