{"id":12203,"date":"2020-12-07T15:19:34","date_gmt":"2020-12-07T20:19:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=12203"},"modified":"2020-12-07T15:50:14","modified_gmt":"2020-12-07T20:50:14","slug":"the-view-from-here-tips-for-fighting-the-sad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/12\/the-view-from-here-tips-for-fighting-the-sad\/","title":{"rendered":"The View From Here &#8211; Tips For Fighting The Sad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I wish I knew how to fix the sadness that everyone is feeling.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m barely getting by myself some days.\u00a0 So easy to fall into negative thinking.\u00a0 So easy to say &#8220;screw it -I&#8217;m just going to live my life.\u00a0 Nobody is guaranteed tomorrow.&#8221;\u00a0 Because we&#8217;re tired.\u00a0 So tired of rules and restrictions.\u00a0 Masks and sanitizer.\u00a0 Circles that keep us six feet apart.\u00a0 Unable to hug those we love.<\/p>\n<p>But we have to keep going.\u00a0 We have to keep doing what we need to do.<\/p>\n<p>I think I&#8217;ve gone through enough in my life to realize time is precious.\u00a0 I get the whole &#8220;nobody is guaranteed tomorrow&#8221;.\u00a0 \u00a0But I also know those &#8220;it&#8217;ll never happen to me&#8221; situations, happen.\u00a0 And they happened to me.<\/p>\n<p>So I don&#8217;t want to take chances.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t want someone I know to be the one who doesn&#8217;t recover.\u00a0 \u00a0I don&#8217;t want anyone to be the one.\u00a0 I know the pain of losing a loved one is just too great.\u00a0 No matter the reason.\u00a0 So if we can stop even one life lost, why would we not want to do that.<\/p>\n<p>The way I see it, we need to work together.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like we&#8217;re on a giant super hero mission to save the world and we can&#8217;t do it alone.\u00a0 We have to do it together. So put on your super hero cape and tights and let&#8217;s get to work.\u00a0 So we take back our lives and our normal.<\/p>\n<p>I read today that the pandemic continues to take a mental health toll on stressed Canadians; a recent poll found that half of Canadians are fed up with the restrictive lifestyles we\u2019ve endured.\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 We are.\u00a0 We&#8217;re tired.\u00a0 We&#8217;re tapping out.<\/p>\n<p>A Gallup 2020 Global Emotions Report found that Americans in 2020 are sadder than they\u2019ve been in most years over the past decade, with more than a quarter, 27%, reporting they experienced a lot of sadness the previous day.\u00a0\u00a0Even experts who specialize in happiness are struggling.<\/p>\n<p>Neil Pasricha, author of &#8220;The Happiness Equation&#8221; and director of The Institute for Global Happiness in Toronto&#8221; said\u00a0\u201cIt&#8217;s been really hard for me and it&#8217;s been really hard for everyone,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverybody is feeling this way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BUT &#8211; there are some things you can do to help you through those tough days.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/holiday-blues-during-covid-tips-feel-happier-deal-anxiety-depression-t202684?cid=sm_npd_td_fb_ma&amp;fbclid=IwAR1zpfh8CRXCeb1FbvXBvjVhhXK_9GO30hdyi-MisAefgTQP2ZTGbhgH2k8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">15 Small Tips To Make You Happier\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0even now.<\/p>\n<p>Start your day with a list of what you are grateful for.<\/p>\n<p>Do some yoga.<\/p>\n<p>Jump around.<\/p>\n<p>Write a to-do list.<\/p>\n<p>Take a few minutes every hour to reset.<\/p>\n<p>Give, any way you can &#8211; donating food or money to a food bank, supporting small businesses in your community, or doing a random act of kindness for a friend, neighbor or stranger.<\/p>\n<p>Laugh<\/p>\n<p>Stop trying to fight the bad mood<\/p>\n<p>Turn off the TV and social media.<\/p>\n<p>Focus on the positive.<\/p>\n<p>Seek out touch.<\/p>\n<p>Let me know what works for you or what you&#8217;ve been doing to help you focus on the good.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZbZSe6N_BXs\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I wish I knew how to fix the sadness that everyone is feeling.
