{"id":12696,"date":"2021-01-22T16:34:20","date_gmt":"2021-01-22T21:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=12696"},"modified":"2021-01-22T16:34:20","modified_gmt":"2021-01-22T21:34:20","slug":"feel-good-friday-beating-the-winter-blues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons-fridays\/2021\/01\/feel-good-friday-beating-the-winter-blues\/","title":{"rendered":"Feel Good Friday &#8211; Beating The Winter Blues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s another Feel Good Friday.\u00a0 Every week we team up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lambtonkent.cmha.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton-Kent<\/a> &#8211; sharing things you can do to take of yourself, focusing on mental health and things you can do to help you FEEL GOOD.\u00a0 Even when it&#8217;s hard.<\/p>\n<p>This week we are focusing on <em>beating the winter blues<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s this time of the year when many of us notice a shift in mood and find themselves lacking energy.\u00a0 \u00a0Yep.\u00a0 I&#8217;m noticing the change.\u00a0 Anybody else?\u00a0 This week has been especially lacking in energy.\u00a0 Me, my husband and kids.\u00a0 All kinda &#8220;blah&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Research in Ontario suggests that 15% of the general population experience these <em>winter blues,<\/em> which can include changes in appetite and lethargy.\u00a0 And no, we can&#8217;t change the weather or amount of daylight, we can try and practice self-care to help us feel better.<\/p>\n<p>What can we do?\u00a0 4 tips from the CMHA &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>TIP 1: Take a break from the news. Especially with everything going on in the world, a break in watching the news can help better manage our stress and sadness.<\/p>\n<p>TIP 2: Boost your mood with FOOD. Foods high in vitamin D such as milk, orange juice and yogurt can help balance mood.<\/p>\n<p>TIP 3: Keep up with your sleep routine. Try to follow a simple bed routine, expose yourself to some light when you wake up, and try not to use electronics in your bedroom!<\/p>\n<p>TIP 4: Call on your support system!
