{"id":13544,"date":"2021-03-12T10:10:20","date_gmt":"2021-03-12T15:10:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=13544"},"modified":"2021-03-12T12:07:42","modified_gmt":"2021-03-12T17:07:42","slug":"feel-good-friday-positive-self-talk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons-fridays\/2021\/03\/feel-good-friday-positive-self-talk\/","title":{"rendered":"Feel Good Friday &#8211; Positive Self-Talk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every week The Fox teams up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/lambtonkent.cmha.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Mental Health Association Lambton Kent<\/a> for Feel Good Fridays.\u00a0 Sharing different things you can do to take care of yourself, focus on your mental health, and to help you <em><strong>FEEL GOOD<\/strong><\/em>!<\/p>\n<p>This is a good one.\u00a0 \u00a0Positive self-talk.\u00a0 A random Google search for self-talk brings up this definition &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Self-talk is your internal dialogue. It&#8217;s influenced by your subconscious mind, and it reveals your thoughts, beliefs, questions, and ideas. Self-talk can be both negative and positive. It can be encouraging, and it can be distressing.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>How do you talk to yourself?\u00a0 What kinds of things are you saying to yourself?\u00a0 How often is it positive?\u00a0 How often is it negative?<\/p>\n<p>I can be really good at finding and focusing on all that I don&#8217;t like about myself.\u00a0 Especially NOW, through this pandemic.\u00a0 The more I work from home and isolate from others, the easier it is to slip into negative patterns.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why this week&#8217;s\u00a0#FeelGoodFriday focuses on positive self-talk!<\/p>\n<p>The CMHA Lambton-Kent says &#8211;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Research shows that how you think about yourself can have a powerful effect on how you feel. When we perceive ourselves and our life negatively, we can then end up viewing experiences as negative as well. Instead, let\u2019s practice using words that promote feelings of self-worth and personal power. For example, instead of saying \u201cI am a failure, I wont get the job because I tanked in the interview\u201d try, \u201cI didn\u2019t do as well in the interview as I would have liked, but that doesn\u2019t mean I\u2019m not going to get the job.\u201d If we engage in positive self talk, we can begin to view the world in a more positive manner and can ultimately feel better about ourselves. We can\u2019t always control what happens, but we can control how we react to it!
