{"id":16798,"date":"2021-12-08T13:42:32","date_gmt":"2021-12-08T18:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=16798"},"modified":"2021-12-08T13:56:54","modified_gmt":"2021-12-08T18:56:54","slug":"the-view-from-here-remembering-the-legend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2021\/12\/the-view-from-here-remembering-the-legend\/","title":{"rendered":"The View From Here &#8211; Remembering The Legend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I just finished watching the Beatles documentary &#8211; Get Back.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m not afraid to say I had tears in my eyes as the final credits ran.\u00a0 Mixed in with some out takes from the filming that was over three weeks long.\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure if you&#8217;ve watched it or not, but I highly recommend it.\u00a0 The Beatles. Coming together for the recording of what would be their final album.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Let_It_Be_(Beatles_album)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Let It Be<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I went into as a fan of the Beatles already.\u00a0 John Lennon my favourite Beatle.\u00a0 Followed by Paul McCartney.\u00a0 But I leave with a deep appreciation for all four.<\/p>\n<p>At first it was a bit slow.\u00a0 Just cameras and microphones listening in as they came together to work on one more album, possibly a tv show or movie or documentary about the making of the album.\u00a0 And you can tell they don&#8217;t REALLY want to be there.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a while since they worked together.\u00a0 They were all feeling a bit frustrated.\u00a0 Paul was trying his best to manage the work, but his suggestions weren&#8217;t taken to eagerly.\u00a0 \u00a0George is trying to bring his own music to the group, his own ideas, but nobody seems to want to listen or think it&#8217;s worth pursuing.\u00a0 At one point he up and quits.\u00a0 Just like that.\u00a0 But that&#8217;s when you see, this group is so much more than the music.\u00a0 You see them as friends.\u00a0 You see how they value each other and how much the group and the music mean to them.\u00a0 And they don&#8217;t or won&#8217;t go on without one.\u00a0 Ringo might be &#8220;just the drummer&#8221; but you get to see him more as a person.\u00a0 You realize just how young they were as well.\u00a0 The pressure they were under to be the best.<\/p>\n<p>Yoko One a constant in this.\u00a0 Always by John&#8217;s side.\u00a0 Not saying anything or interrupting, like you might think, like we&#8217;ve been made to believe.\u00a0 Just.\u00a0 There.\u00a0 You always get a feel for how the others in the band feel about it.\u00a0 At one point she DOES ask a question about the performance, and you can tell by Paul&#8217;s answer and response that they DON&#8217;T want her there.\u00a0 At least, that&#8217;s how I felt about it.<\/p>\n<p>You see their personality.\u00a0 You see how talented they really were. How they could sit and create a song out of nothing.\u00a0 You could see the &#8220;work&#8221; of the group.<\/p>\n<p>I can honestly say I don&#8217;t LOVE every Beatles song.\u00a0 But I sure have my favourites.\u00a0 And to see some of those songs come to be was pretty amazing to watch.\u00a0 Get Back.\u00a0 Just a few strums on a guitar and some words thrown together became a huge song.\u00a0 To see the playfulness of the group.\u00a0 John Lennon was an incredibly funny man.<\/p>\n<p>And I think what struck me the most was knowing what would happen to him.\u00a0 The sadness felt.\u00a0 Seeing him as this funny, caring human being, knowing his life would be cut short.<\/p>\n<p>That performance in the documentary would be their last as a band.<\/p>\n<p>Today marks the anniversary of the shooting of John Lennon.\u00a0 Gunned down in the streets of New York that he called home. By a &#8220;fan&#8221;.\u00a0 Hard to imagine.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/feature\/john-lennon-the-last-interview-179443\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rolling Stone<\/a> sat down with him for nine hours for an interview just days before he was killed.\u00a0 So unfair.\u00a0 So tragic.\u00a0 So unbelievably sad.<\/p>\n<p>So today, I think of the impact John Lennon and the Beatles, had on the world.\u00a0 On music.\u00a0 I feel sad for the what the world lost. For Yoko and his boys left behind.\u00a0 What could have been.\u00a0 And I&#8217;ll listen to the music and be thankful I was introduced to their music so long ago.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll watch YouTube videos of the music, past interviews, and remember.
