<\/p>\nThis #10yearchallenge is going around again on Facebook , asking that you share a picture of yourself both recent and from ten years ago.\u00a0 Have you done it?\u00a0 Have you played along?<\/p>\n
It’s so fun to see the pictures and see how people you know have changed.\u00a0 It’s even more fun to look at yourself.\u00a0 And do a little or a lot, of reflecting on how much YOU have changed.<\/p>\n
I guess we’ve done it before, because it showed up on my Facebook memories today.\u00a0 Only, when I played along three years ago, I went beyond ten years, and started digging really deep into old pictures of me.\u00a0 My oh my, how our\u00a0pictures can tell a story and bring up all kinds of memories and all kinds of feelings.\u00a0 \u00a0Good and bad.<\/p>\n
Like this\u00a0one from high school.\u00a0 Wearing all black, trying to be cool.\u00a0<\/p>\n
When my oldest daughter saw the picture\u00a0 she said “you look like one of those cool 80’s chicks from those movies that carries their binders in one hand and wears funky hats and complains about their mothers forgetting their birthdays”<\/em>.\u00a0 I take that as a compliment.<\/p>\n You think back to those teenage days.\u00a0 When we were just trying to figure out who we wanted to be.<\/p>\n Where we wanted to go.\u00a0 Life felt safe and secure.<\/p>\n Knowing NOW what would happen in the next two weeks that would change life in such a huge way.<\/p>\n Thirty plus years later and I’m still working through it and trying to remember the girl who sat and laughed on the beach.\u00a0 Wishing somehow I could help her.\u00a0 Protect her.\u00a0 Prepare her.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n My first trip to Florida was an adventure I went on with Eve Morgan over 20 years ago.\u00a0 Yep, we’ve been friends for a very long time.\u00a0 January 1997.<\/p>\n I learned that Florida in January is not as warm as you think it is.\u00a0 I packed shorts and t-shirts and had to borrow sweatshirts and sweatpants just to stay warm.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n We went to Sea World and I got to feed\u00a0the dolphins.\u00a0 I look at that picture and\u00a0 see my youngest daughter in me.\u00a0 So many similarities.\u00a0 Odd.\u00a0 Gosh.\u00a0 We were so young.\u00a0 Before kids.\u00a0 Before mortgage payments and adult worry.\u00a0 Before grey hair and wrinkles.\u00a0 I still had a waistline.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n It was hard to find a picture from 10 years ago to compare the “then and now”.\u00a0 I found this one picture.\u00a0 When I got my first laptop and was playing with the camera with my kids.\u00a0 There was a lot of heavy stuff going on in my life then that I think I’ll just skip this challenge.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n Facebook is both a blessing and a curse sometimes.\u00a0 It has the ability to transport you back in time to old pictures, old posts and old memories and some are better left in the past.\u00a0 (smile) I challenge you to do this fun exercise in time travel.\u00a0 Look back on your life.\u00a0 On those old pictures and memories.\u00a0 Look at where you are and what you have gone through and overcome.\u00a0 The hurts and heartaches.\u00a0 \u00a0The trends, and fashion faux pas. (smiles).<\/p>\n All of it adding to your life story and who you are today.<\/p>\n What are you thankful for?\u00a0 What are you grateful for?\u00a0 What did you learn from the challenges?\u00a0 Who is still with you celebrating with you?\u00a0 Who is missing?<\/p>\n My 50 years have been full of blessings, and heartache.\u00a0 I appreciate all of it for what it has taught me and how it has shaped me.<\/p>\n I wish some of it never happened, but appreciate the lessons along the way.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This #10yearchallenge is going around again on Facebook , asking that you share a picture of yourself both recent and from ten years ago.\u00a0 Have you done it?\u00a0 Have you played along? Ipperwash Beach.\u00a0 1991.\u00a0 Weeks before my world turned upside down and I lost half my family in a car accident.\u00a0 Life would forever be turned into two distinct time markers of before and after the accident.\u00a0 I have stared at this picture too much.<\/p>\n
