I think it’s safe to say we’re all in shock over the news of another mass shooting.\u00a0 I’ve been struggling to find the words.\u00a0 How can this have happened?\u00a0 Again.<\/p>\n
My mind can’t process it.\u00a0 \u00a0My heart breaks for all those families dealing with such heartbreak right now.\u00a0 \u00a0How do we begin to understand this?\u00a0 What do we DO?\u00a0 How do we help?\u00a0 How do we FIX this?<\/p>\n
As of this morning, they reported at least 19 children and two teachers were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.\u00a0\u00a0The two teachers died trying to protect them.\u00a0 Let that one sink in.\u00a0 How is this happening in this world?<\/p>\n
Senseless and tragic.\u00a0 Heartbreaking.\u00a0 \u00a0Devastating.<\/p>\n
So many questions, like WHY?\u00a0 Why does an 18 year old go to an elementary school to do this?<\/p>\n
And so the conversation begins AGAIN about gun control laws and what to do.\u00a0 How do we stop this from happening?<\/p>\n
As a parent I’m thinking of those little kids.\u00a0 \u00a0Sitting in a classroom. A regular Tuesday.\u00a0 \u00a0I can’t stop thinking of how incredibly frightening the situation must have been.\u00a0 What they were thinking and feeling.\u00a0 How scared they must have been.<\/p>\n
I can’t stop thinking of those parents who are grieving the loss of their little ones.\u00a0 I can’t stop thinking of the parents trying to comfort the kids who weren’t killed.\u00a0 Those kids will never, ever be the same.<\/p>\n
I know for me, when we lost our family in a car accident, it changed me in ways that I feel to this day.\u00a0 Someone going way too fast, through a stop sign.\u00a0 Even though I wasn’t in the car when it happened, to this day I don’t trust other drivers to stop.\u00a0 I get anxious at intersections, especially on country roads.\u00a0 Because it DID happen, I know that it can happen and could happen to ME.<\/p>\n
But that is nothing compared to this situation. No one should have to live life in fear.\u00a0 No one should feel unsafe at school.\u00a0 Or anywhere.<\/p>\n
So what do we do?\u00a0 What CAN we do?<\/p>\n
I don’t know.<\/p>\n
I don’t have the answers.\u00a0 But I know we can’t go wrong showing more kindness, compassion and care to each other.\u00a0 Check up on those in your life.\u00a0 Watch for signs of struggle.\u00a0 Reach out.\u00a0 Check in.<\/p>\n
My heart goes out to everyone effected by this situation.\u00a0 \u00a0I don’t know your pain but I stand with you and support you and send you prayers for strength, peace and comfort.\u00a0 I KNOW it’s not enough and never will be.\u00a0 But it’s something.<\/p>\n
