Just checking in to see how you are doing.\u00a0 It’s the first day of school for our kids.\u00a0 A day full of nerves, and excitement, a bit of apprehension, anxiety, fear, worry.\u00a0 Maybe that’s just me.\u00a0 Reliving all my first day of school memories.\u00a0 (smile)\u00a0 I was shy, awkward and such a dork. Not much has changed.\u00a0 (smile)\u00a0 I relive it all watching my kids go back to school. It’s harder this year knowing my youngest is in grade 11.\u00a0 Final two years of high school.\u00a0 Already thinking of what happens after.\u00a0 Gulp.\u00a0 This mom is not ready for her kids to leave the nest.\u00a0 How do you do it parents?\u00a0 I feel like it took me a decade to handle my son going away to school and then moving across the country.\u00a0 But the thought of no more kids at home has ME anxious, sad and NOT ready.\u00a0\u00a0I’m going to need a support group of some kind.\u00a0 Just warning you now.<\/p>\n

Back to school brings back so many memories doesn’t it?\u00a0 Flashbacks to those first day jitters.\u00a0 Where to sit.\u00a0 Who would talk to me?\u00a0 Were my friends going to be in my class?\u00a0 Who would my teacher be?\u00a0 So much nervousness.<\/p>\n

It’s not all jitters.\u00a0 First day of school brings me back to the excitement over new school supplies.\u00a0 When I was in school we got new pencils, new notebooks.\u00a0 And remember that glue?\u00a0\u00a0With the rubber top?\u00a0 Still get excited over new stuff.\u00a0 Seriously.\u00a0 Ask my kids.\u00a0 Back to school shopping usually means I get something new for myself.\u00a0 It makes me happy. And feel productive.<\/p>\n

There is just something about this time of year that motivates me again.\u00a0 I want to get organized again.\u00a0 Rethink my goals and plans.\u00a0 Make new goals.\u00a0 Get back to routine.\u00a0 Get back to nutritious eating.\u00a0 MOST of the time.\u00a0 (smile)\u00a0 I organize and clean things up.<\/p>\n

It’s like January 1.\u00a0 But better.\u00a0 Because no wind chill and no snow.\u00a0 (smile).<\/p>\n

I hope the kids had a great first day of school.\u00a0 And if not, don’t worry.\u00a0 It gets easier.\u00a0 It’s always hard to adjust to a new year and new classroom, kids, teachers.\u00a0 But those nerves go away and you will settle in and do just great with the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

Shout out to the teachers, staff, bus drivers, crossing guards – all the people that are back in their roles to take care of our kids.\u00a0 Thank you for all that you do.\u00a0 Wishing you a successful year as well.<\/p>\n
