{"id":22212,"date":"2023-01-13T14:17:22","date_gmt":"2023-01-13T19:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=22212"},"modified":"2023-01-13T15:11:11","modified_gmt":"2023-01-13T20:11:11","slug":"movie-review-i-wanna-dance-with-somebody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2023\/01\/movie-review-i-wanna-dance-with-somebody\/","title":{"rendered":"Movie Review &#8211; I Wanna Dance With Somebody"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9tfemzaMkoU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>I took myself to the movies last night for a chance to watch the life of Whitney Houston unfold on the big screen.\u00a0 Some movies you need the theatre.\u00a0 Big screen.\u00a0 Big sound.<\/p>\n<p>There was a handful of us there for the final showing of the movie that opened just before Christmas.\u00a0 I was hoping for an experience that was as good as the Elvis movie was.\u00a0 I was interested in experiencing the life of Whitney Houston.\u00a0 Her rise to fame.\u00a0 Her struggles.\u00a0 Her triumphs.<\/p>\n<p>The movie was nearly 2 and a half hours long and I left disappointed.\u00a0 Maybe because the Elvis movie was so good I had high expectations.\u00a0 I wanted to see and feel Whitney.<\/p>\n<p>It started with her getting tricked into performing in front of the legendary music producer Clive Davis.\u00a0 Her mother was also a performer, but never got the level of success and fame that she wanted.\u00a0 Whitney would perform in church, and she would perform at a small club with her mother.\u00a0 \u00a0Clive was in the audience when Whitney performed in place of her mother and her first record contract happened.<\/p>\n<p>She never wrote her own music, but always looked for music that she could relate to.\u00a0 Like Elvis, and so many other celebrities that got fame and fortune, Whitney&#8217;s story didn&#8217;t seem much different.\u00a0 Her dad spent most of her money, forcing her to make more albums, and tour even when she wanted to be home with her daughter.\u00a0 Her mother pushed her hard at the beginning to get the fame and success she never did.\u00a0 Her parents marriage was rough. Lots of fighting.\u00a0 She married into an abusive relationship herself with Bobby Brown.<\/p>\n<p>She got lost in drug addiction, and it pretty much seemed to cost her her career in the end.\u00a0 Or it would have.\u00a0 If she hadn&#8217;t died so young.<\/p>\n<p>They seemed to ignore that or skip over that in the movie. I wasn&#8217;t happy with the ending.\u00a0 We know what happened, but it wasn&#8217;t there on the screen other than in words after the movie was done. I was hoping for a bit more.<\/p>\n<p>I was disappointed that Whitney&#8217;s music, pictures\/ video footage wasn&#8217;t shown until after the credits were rolling and people were leaving the theatre.\u00a0 I was the last one standing to stare up at the screen with a few tears for this incredibly talented woman who was gone too soon.<\/p>\n<p>I was left wanting more.\u00a0 More of a connection.\u00a0 Naomi Ackie who portrayed the star was good but not the same level as Whitney.\u00a0 But really, who could be? Nobody.<\/p>\n<p>I think they gave us a lot in the movie, but I&#8217;m pretty sure there is so much more to her story we will never know. Overall, I found it a bit confusing.\u00a0 Hard to follow along at times.\u00a0 Especially the end.\u00a0 But\u00a0I&#8217;m glad I saw it.\u00a0 For me Whitney was a force.\u00a0 Strong.\u00a0 Powerful.\u00a0 But seeing the story of the behind the scenes you get a sense of the sadness that comes with it.\u00a0 The pressure.\u00a0 The bad influences.\u00a0 \u00a0Giving into the stress of it all.<\/p>\n<p>When I was young I thought I wanted to be like Whitney.\u00a0 Or Madonna or Cyndi Lauper.\u00a0 I loved watching them sing and singing along by myself as I listened to their music.<\/p>\n<p>A reminder that fame and money don&#8217;t equal happiness and sometimes even the people closest to you, who you think would love and protect you &#8211; don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>If you love her music, are curious about her life &#8211; watch it.\u00a0 If you get the chance.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eH3giaIzONA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m-cCDIN45Gg\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/h7rAxxlkCCU\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I took myself to the movies last night for a chance to watch the life of Whitney Houston unfold on the big screen.\u00a0 Some movies you need the theatre.\u00a0 Big screen.\u00a0 Big sound.
