I discovered recently that Kate Middleton and I have something in common.\u00a0 Well, to be honest, I’m sure there’s a lot of us that do.\u00a0 I read recently that Kate\u00a0loves to bake cakes for her kids birthdays<\/a>.\u00a0 Me too, Kate!\u00a0 Me too.<\/p>\n

It’s something my mom did for all of us kids in the Buchanan house as long as I can remember.\u00a0 I know she took some sort of cake decorating class because for a while we had some really cool cakes!!!\u00a0 One was a Holly Hobby cake.\u00a0 I remember it well.<\/p>\n

My mom always made the homemade cakes ‘with love’ in our house.\u00a0 \u00a0If I remember right, there was an orange cake stand she used a lot that I believe she made in a ceramics class.<\/p>\n

I don’t know about you, but our cakes always had money in them too.\u00a0 Not big bucks, but we got quarters, and dimes and nickels and penny’s.\u00a0 \u00a0Sometimes a button.\u00a0 I remember racing through pieces of cake to find more money.\u00a0 \u00a0At the time it was a big deal.\u00a0 You could get a lot of penny candy if you had the change.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n

My youngest daughter recently celebrated her 18th birthday, and after being at a family gathering recently, we were talking about “the good ole days” (smile) and birthdays came up and money in the cakes, so I thought I would do that for my daughter.\u00a0 My kids have never had the experience of finding money in the cake until now.\u00a0 I know, hygiene.\u00a0 Dirty money.\u00a0 (smile) I survived it as a kid and I survived it this time too since it seems I was the one sneaking the most cake this year.\u00a0 Hey, at got most of my own money back. Score.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n

I love hearing that Princess Kate loves to stay up late, making the cakes for her kids.\u00a0 \u00a0I don’t know if she makes it from scratch or not.\u00a0 Maybe she does.\u00a0 I don’t.\u00a0 I open the box and mix it up.\u00a0 And I lick the beaters, the spoon and the bowl. (smile)\u00a0 Perks of baking it yourself.<\/p>\n

Every year the challenge is to create something different than the year before and to have a different theme than the other kids.<\/p>\n

This year I was in a hurry and ended up with a lopsided, broken cake.\u00a0 (smile)\u00a0 I called it the saddest cake I ever made.\u00a0 It was still good though.<\/p>\n

Prince Louis by the way, just celebrated his sixth birthday.\u00a0 I wonder if Kate’s cake looks as good as mine.\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n
