{"id":32329,"date":"2025-02-11T13:13:20","date_gmt":"2025-02-11T18:13:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=32329"},"modified":"2025-02-11T11:28:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-11T16:28:53","slug":"tasty-tuesday-what-is-still-worth-making-from-scratch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2025\/02\/tasty-tuesday-what-is-still-worth-making-from-scratch\/","title":{"rendered":"Tasty Tuesday &#8211; What Is Still Worth Making From &#8220;Scratch&#8221;?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I came across<a href=\"https:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/hannahloewentheil\/foods-not-worth-making-from-scratch?d_id=8714833&amp;ref=bffbbuzzfeedvideo&amp;utm_source=dynamic&amp;utm_campaign=bffbbuzzfeedvideo&amp;fbclid=IwY2xjawIYVZ9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHYm7oqiquGEN7fEUYdQDoqz3kJHQ_LGx644cqGXEKztozgmS-K2MZ5W6-g_aem_t8oMnOBYLPFDz9_bK2V9tg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> this article<\/a> today about foods just not worth making from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Like pesto.\u00a0 Sour dough bread.\u00a0 French onion soup.\u00a0 Croissants.\u00a0 Pumpkin puree.<\/p>\n<p>There are a lot of foods on that list of suggestions from people that &#8211; to be honest &#8211; I wouldn&#8217;t even THINK to attempt.<\/p>\n<p>I have made pie crust from scratch.\u00a0 I actually used to ONLY make it from scratch.\u00a0 The more you do it, the easier it gets.\u00a0 These days it&#8217;s more about having the time to invest in making something from scratch because usually it&#8217;s time consuming.\u00a0 And it can actually be more expensive to get the ingredients to do it yourself.<\/p>\n<p>So, yeah, I cheat these days.\u00a0 If I want an apple pie &#8211; I buy the premade crust.\u00a0 But I still cut up the apples and add the sugar and spices myself.\u00a0 I still &#8216;bake it with love&#8221; as my mom used to say.<\/p>\n<p>I still make mac and cheese from an old recipe book.\u00a0 I love to make tea biscuits on a Sunday afternoon.\u00a0 I have a pancake recipe my kids request that I use for those big breakfasts on the weekends or for Shrove Tuesday (it&#8217;s coming up March 4th).<\/p>\n<p>I do make butter tarts the same way.\u00a0 I buy the shells but I have my own recipe for the filling.<\/p>\n<p>I make French Onion soup from scratch and I&#8217;ve started making my own granola which I love.<\/p>\n<p>I tried making scones once.\u00a0 They were yummy.\u00a0 But again, sometimes it&#8217;s easier to just to buy one already made.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made spaghetti sauce with ripe tomatoes and have to admit, that sauce is noticeably different than any sauce in a can.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve never made cake from scratch but I do have an amazing brownie recipe that I love.<\/p>\n<p>What, if anything, do YOU still make from scratch?\u00a0 Is there an old family recipe you still use?\u00a0 Is there any one thing that you absolutely refuse to buy?<\/p>\n<p>Let me know!<\/p>\n<p>I love to make things and I love spending time in the kitchen.\u00a0 But you have to be in the &#8220;mood&#8221; to bake or create from scratch and you have to have the time to commit to it.<\/p>\n<p>Once in a while, it&#8217;s a really nice treat to bake something sweet.\u00a0 With the long weekend ahead of us, maybe it&#8217;s time to get the cookbook out again.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"mailto:cbuchanan@blackburnmedia.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cbuchanan@blackburnmedia.ca<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"I came across this article today about foods just not worth making from scratch.
