Join or Organize a Local Clean-Up
Grab gloves, a garbage bag, and hit a local park, beach, trail, or even your own street. Check for events with groups like Sarnia Community Cleanup.

2. Plant Native Trees or Wildflowers
Support your local ecosystem by planting native species. Some areas even offer free saplings on Earth Day. The City of Sarnia will be giving away 400 trees this Saturday starting at 9 am at Germain Park as part of the Community Cleanup Day. Several varieties of native trees are available on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. Native plants = happier bees and birds!

3. Go Car-Free for the Day
Walk, bike, take public transit, or carpool. It’s a simple way to reduce emissions and enjoy your surroundings.

4. Support Canadian Eco-Friendly Brands
From refill stores to locally made sustainable products, show some Earth Day love to companies doing their part. Look for things like reusable beeswax wraps, Canadian-made bamboo products, or eco-friendly skincare.

5. Unplug for an Hour
Have an Earth Hour-style tech break—light candles, play board games, go for a sunset walk, or have a backyard campfire (if it’s safe and allowed!).

6. Start a Garden (Even a Tiny One!)
Plant herbs, lettuce, or tomatoes—even in containers. Gardening helps pollinators and cuts down on food miles. Bonus: you get the freshest salad ever.

7. Visit a National or Provincial Park
Reconnect with the land! Many parks host Earth Day events, and it’s a great excuse for a scenic walk, hike, or picnic.

8. Switch One Thing to Reusable
Pick one single-use item—like paper towels, coffee pods, plastic bags—and swap it for a reusable alternative.

9. Do a Digital Clean-Up
Delete old files, emails, or photos. Data storage uses energy, and a decluttered phone feels so good.

10. Educate & Share
Post an Earth Day tip, Canadian environmental stat, or eco-win on social media. Knowledge spreads change—and who knows who you might inspire?

It’s Earth Day! And of course I can find a way to tie it in with my favourite 80’s band.
