I remember being woken up in the middle of the night to gather around the television. My mom, my gramma and my aunt. I remember watching in awe.\u00a0 It was an event. It was a celebration.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>750 million<\/strong> people watched that wedding, all over the world. Their wedding still remains the most-watched royal wedding in history.<\/p>\n<p>July 29th, 1981. So long ago.\u00a0 I was 10.<\/p>\n<p>That gown. That train.\u00a0 The crowds.<\/p>\n<p>It was like watching a <em>fairy tale.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Diana was a rule breaker in her day. It&#8217;s why many believed she was never accepted into the royal family.\u00a0 It&#8217;s why she was given such a hard time.\u00a0 She tried to modernize the royals. Make them a little more &#8220;human&#8221;.\u00a0 And it started with her vows.\u00a0 According to a New York Times article from 1981, Diana was the first royal to leave out the word &#8220;obey&#8221; from her wedding vows.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what it was about that wedding, or Lady Diana herself, but that one event drew me in to the royals.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve followed them ever since.\u00a0 Fascination. Curiosity. A bit of envy maybe?<\/p>\n<p>She was young. She was beautiful.\u00a0 He was a prince, destined to be King.\u00a0 What an incredible love story.\u00a0 Or so we thought.<\/p>\n<p>We know the fairy tale wouldn&#8217;t last and the heart break of losing Diana so young and so unfairly.<\/p>\n<p>But for that moment in time, it was simply amazing to watch.\u00a0 A moment in time to get caught up in a fairy tale and the hope of something incredible to come.<\/p>\n<div class=\"video-shortcode embed-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"610\" height=\"355\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/S9VAWmCEkEI\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Do you remember the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana?
