The Canadian National Exhibition<\/a> opened Friday.\u00a0 And I can’t stop looking at the FOOD<\/a>!<\/p>\n

When I was a kid we went to the CNE – Canadian National Exhibition. We grew up in Streetsville, so it was a yearly tradition.\u00a0 The end of summer, and a sign it was almost time to go back to school.\u00a0 I remember the rides and the games and the general excitement. I don’t ever remember the food like they have now.<\/p>\n

I used to think a bag of cotton candy, or a caramel apple was “fair food”.\u00a0 Not anymore.\u00a0 It goes so much bigger than that.\u00a0 I want to meet the people that come up with this food and shake their hand, or hug them, thank them for their wild and daring creations.<\/p>\n

I’m 47. I am old enough to know what’s good for me.\u00a0 What’s “healthy”.\u00a0 If you’re looking for anything at the C.N.E. made with cauliflower, or low calorie, you are plain out of luck.<\/p>\n

That kid that got excited about the cotton candy has leveled up and she wants the hot Cheetos-encrusted fried chicken sandwiched between two cheese-stuffed Doritos. A Nacho chip burger.<\/p>\n

I would even be willing to try the deep-fried avocado.<\/p>\n

Dill pickle lemonade.\u00a0 No thanks. I’d rather be thirsty.<\/p>\n

Frozen cookie dough spaghetti.\u00a0 Uh huh. It’s a real thing.<\/p>\n

Deep-fried tacos is a thing and I’m intrigued.<\/p>\n

Fried chicken in a crepe.\u00a0 “A fried thing tucked inside another fried thing with a mac and cheese-looking sauce”.<\/p>\n

Tell me more.<\/p>\n

There’s the “Wakin’ Bacon”. A waffle bowl. Loaded with tater tots. Eggs. Bacon and hollandaise sauce.\u00a0 I’ll take two.<\/p>\n

How to improve on funnel cake?\u00a0 How about a funnel cake fried chicken sandwich. Sweet. Salty. Crunchy. I’m interested.<\/p>\n

The Dorito-encrusted corn dog.\u00a0 Could be good.<\/p>\n

The rainbow grilled cheese.<\/p>\n

My heart is already drawn to the deep-fried Oreos. In bright beautiful colours of the rainbow.\u00a0 I would love to try them and pretty sure I wouldn’t share.<\/p>\n

Pickle pizza.\u00a0 Um, no thanks.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Pierogi burger.\u00a0 Because burgers are boring.\u00a0 Why not add an entire row of potato and cheese pierogies, with sour cream, cheese and bacon and aioli.<\/p>\n

BBQ quail.<\/p>\n

And rainbow funnel cake. You know.\u00a0 For dessert.<\/p>\n

Wash it down with the Tim Hortons\/ Chips Ahoy Iced Cap. Or Twizzler Slush.<\/p>\n

Pound cake French toast.<\/p>\n

Scorpion ice cream?\u00a0 No thank you.\u00a0 I’m trying to cut back.<\/p>\n
