<\/p>\nI collect too much “stuff” – scrapbook stickers.\u00a0 Mementos.\u00a0 Every movie ticket\/ concert ticket I’ve ever been to.<\/p>\n
And records. So many records.\u00a0 It’s an old habit that has been renewed with enthusiasm.<\/p>\n
I love records that remind me of childhood.\u00a0 I love records that remind me of a date in time, a reminder of the past.\u00a0 A reminder of my mom, and how she loved to dance in the living room.\u00a0 Whether it was the Beatles or Michael Jackson. She loved to dance and sing.<\/p>\n
A certain song will take me back to the saddest day of my life, remembering family gone too soon or to a feeling of triumph, dancing on stage in front of a few hundred people at last years Dancing With The Stars.\u00a0 A song will take me back to high school dances, or high school heartache.<\/p>\n
I credit my parents with my love of music.\u00a0 All music. All genres. There was always music in the house or the car.<\/p>\n
I belonged to the Columbia Record and Tape club.\u00a0 A few times.\u00a0 Because anyone who belonged, knows,\u00a0 that you would cancel your subscription, and then they would want you back with 11 more albums for a penny. (smile)\u00a0 It was a great deal at the time.<\/p>\n
This weekend there was a record show at the Legion in Sarnia and it was AMAZING.\u00a0 So many dealers all coming together selling their albums.\u00a0 All kinds of people from all different cities.\u00a0 All sharing a love of music and the stories they were sharing were just as fun to listen in on.\u00a0 Tidbits of information on different albums\/ artists.\u00a0 Everybody has a reason for loving the music they do. Everyone has a story.<\/p>\n
It brings back my love of music and albums.\u00a0 Holding the artwork in my hand. Reading the liner notes. The pictures.\u00a0 The stories.\u00a0 Listening to an entire album, track by track. Flipping it over to listen to the other side.\u00a0 The crackle. The hiss.\u00a0 The scratch as it came to the end.<\/p>\n
I was super excited to find\u00a0a few new old treasures to add to my collection.\u00a0 A Duran Duran album I lost years ago.\u00a0 I found a Beatles picture disc – before Ringo became their drummer.\u00a0 Paul McCartney – Give My Regards To Broad Street – excited for the find because one of my favourite songs by him is Silly Love Songs.\u00a0 Elton John’s Greatest Hits too.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Music is powerful.\u00a0 It can take you back to a memory, a period in time.\u00a0 Good or bad.\u00a0 Happy or sad.\u00a0 Music gets you through life.\u00a0 The highs and lows, the ups and downs.<\/p>\n
Music tells your story.<\/p>\n
My kids don’t know how it feels to hold an album in hand. They honestly don’t really care.\u00a0 The excitement for an album release day.\u00a0 Holding it in your hand. Listening to track by track for the first time. Trying to understand the meaning. Reading the lyrics word by word.<\/p>\n
Nothing like it.<\/p>\n
And to be in a room of music lovers like that was an incredible experience.\u00a0 So much energy.\u00a0 People in search of lost albums, lost memories, and new finds.<\/p>\n
