And she thought I was &#8220;big mad&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m 48.\u00a0 A mom of three.\u00a0 My youngest is 13, and I am doing my very best to try to understand the teen language and trying to keep my head above water.\u00a0 Still be &#8220;cool&#8221; and relevant and understand what they are saying.<\/p>\n<p>Some days I fail miserably.<\/p>\n<p>I thought &#8220;ok&#8221; was an ok response to a question.<\/p>\n<p>Instead my daughter\u00a0 replied with &#8220;you gotta add &#8216;ay&#8217; at the end now it just sounds like you&#8217;re mad&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To which I was so confused.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t mad.\u00a0 I was just saying &#8220;ok&#8221; &#8211; as in &#8220;sure, yes I&#8217;ll do that for you&#8221;.\u00a0 \u00a0 I thought I was just answering the question. In a positive, non angry way.<\/p>\n<p>How can two letters be seen as an angry response when the majority of texts are in code for me anyway?\u00a0 As in &#8212; btw,\u00a0 ttyl,\u00a0 atm, and other responses I can&#8217;t remember because I still text with real words, AND I use periods which is another no-no.<\/p>\n<p>I was told once &#8220;why do you use periods?\u00a0 nobody does that&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Or capitals or even proper sentences.<\/p>\n<p>Wow.\u00a0 When did I get so old?\u00a0 I type real words, whole words, with capitals and punctuation.\u00a0 Sometimes I don&#8217;t send a complete thought and will use &#8230;\u00a0 &#8211; as in, to be continued.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s wrong too.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s like a cry for help.\u00a0 Which is certainly how I feel some days (jokes) but not the intention when I use it in writing or texting.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s confusing for sure trying to stay relevant and on top of the teen speak.<\/p>\n<p>For all of us still learning &#8211; click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehook.com\/article\/advice\/the-difference-between-texting-k-ok-kk-explained\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HERE\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0 Okay?!!!!\u00a0 Thanks!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"My daughter texted me this morning a question to which I replied &#8220;ok&#8221; and I guess that&#8217;s big wrong.
