I’m a huge fan of the royal family.\u00a0 I loved Princess Diana and was crushed when she was killed so tragically. But I’m not sure a musical about her life is what I would want to see.<\/p>\n
The story of Diana put to music.\u00a0 Hmmmmm.<\/p>\n
Diana was this beautiful, shy, kindergarten teacher who met a Prince and fell in love.\u00a0 Got married. Had two kids.\u00a0 And forever struggled to find a place in an institution that never seemed to embrace her.<\/p>\n
Her husband seemed to be in love with someone else through their entire marriage.<\/p>\n
A complicated person.\u00a0 A complicated life.<\/p>\n
I have to admit, I was intrigued when I came across the video today.\u00a0\u00a0David Bryan, keyboardist with Bon Jovi, has co-written the new Broadway musical about Diana.\u00a0 Diana: A True Musical Story is now running on the “Great White Way” at the Longacre Theatre, with opening night set for March 31st.<\/p>\n
David says the show represents the late Diana, Princess of Wales, and says it’s a show her family would be able to watch.\u00a0 Not cheesy.\u00a0 Not “tabloidy”.\u00a0 No heroes, no victims.\u00a0 He says “They would be proud of it. I\u2019m proud to show it to them.”<\/p>\n
I wanted to hate it.\u00a0 I hesitated to even hit play.<\/p>\n
But when the song began, and the lyrics started to express her story – Diana’s story – I admit, I started to love it.<\/p>\n
