{"id":8545,"date":"2020-04-01T16:58:24","date_gmt":"2020-04-01T20:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=8545"},"modified":"2020-04-01T17:02:18","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T21:02:18","slug":"get-ready-for-the-ugly-cry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/04\/get-ready-for-the-ugly-cry\/","title":{"rendered":"Get Ready For The Ugly Cry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a day.<\/p>\n<p>A day for the ugly cry.\u00a0 Therapy in these challenging times.<\/p>\n<p>I highly recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>We are all doing our best.\u00a0 And if you&#8217;re like me you feel like you have to &#8220;keep it together&#8221;.\u00a0 For work, for the kids, for your own sanity.<\/p>\n<p>These are difficult times.\u00a0 Like nothing we have ever experienced before.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, I am doing my best to maintain some sort of routine. I&#8217;m getting up at 7am, or sometimes, 7:09, 7:18, 7:27 or later.\u00a0 Snoozers understand.<\/p>\n<p>When you sleep, you forget.\u00a0 When your alarm goes off and you open your eyes, you have that split second where you are still distanced from reality.\u00a0 You almost FORGET what it happening around you.<\/p>\n<p>My husband is still working out of town.\u00a0 There are a lot of people still working.\u00a0 Still putting themselves out there in this scary world.<\/p>\n<p>This morning started like other days. The alarm, the denial, the coffee, the workout, the shower.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been playing a bit of worship music to distract me in the morning.\u00a0 Looking for hope.\u00a0 Something bigger than this virus to believe in and cling to.<\/p>\n<p>A few words into the song and I just lost it.\u00a0 The ugly cry.<\/p>\n<p>And you know what?\u00a0 It&#8217;s just what I needed.\u00a0 I needed that push to just let go of all of it.\u00a0 The anxiety, the fear, the worry &#8211; and just let it go.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t keep your feelings bottled up.\u00a0 Let them out.\u00a0 Do the ugly cry.\u00a0 The Tammy Faye mascara running down your face ugly cry. Maybe it&#8217;s a song.\u00a0 Maybe you need to rewatch Grey&#8217;s Anatomy.\u00a0 Or This Is Us.<\/p>\n<p>Find something that will allow you to let go of all that&#8217;s building up.\u00a0 Because it will.<\/p>\n<p>As adults, we want to protect our kids.\u00a0 We want to keep it together.\u00a0 We feel like we have to &#8220;be strong&#8221; for those around us.\u00a0 It gets exhausting.<\/p>\n<p>So give yourself permission to feel all the feelings.<\/p>\n<p>We can do our best to stick to some sort of normal routine, but the truth is, nothing is normal right now.<\/p>\n<p>We miss people.\u00a0 We miss our family members.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to see my dad again.\u00a0 I know he&#8217;s high-risk for this virus.\u00a0 For him I will stay home.\u00a0 For those in health care that will give up so much to take care of those who will need it.\u00a0 I will stay home.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not easy being apart from those we love. It&#8217;s not easy not being able to hang out or shop.\u00a0 But we have to.<\/p>\n<p>I read somewhere that what we are feeling right now is a lot like grief.\u00a0 We are grieving.\u00a0 Our normal life.\u00a0 Our connection to people.<\/p>\n<p>Ugly cry.\u00a0 Just do it.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be searching out another sad movie tonight for another therapy session on the couch.\u00a0 I finally remembered where I hid the chocolate.
