{"id":8568,"date":"2020-04-03T12:48:56","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T16:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=8568"},"modified":"2020-04-03T12:50:17","modified_gmt":"2020-04-03T16:50:17","slug":"the-view-from-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/04\/the-view-from-here\/","title":{"rendered":"The View From Here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Strange isn&#8217;t it?<\/p>\n<p>To look out the window and see that everything still LOOKS normal.\u00a0 From my home office window, I see the sunshine and blue skies.\u00a0 I see birds in the tree.\u00a0 I can hear them singing.\u00a0 I hear a cardinal.\u00a0 Sometimes a woodpecker.\u00a0 Right now there are two Morning Doves sitting side by side.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>I feel safe in my little home office.\u00a0 I feel safe from this invisible threat that is claiming so many lives around the world, and in our own community.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve grown accustomed to a run down of numbers daily.<\/p>\n<p>Now we have numbers in our community.\u00a0 Suddenly those numbers might be people we know.<\/p>\n<p>But the sun keeps shining and the birds keep singing.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to get your brain to understand.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve never lived through anything like this.\u00a0 I have to say I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;m always getting it right.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve snapped at my kids.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve let fear control my thoughts.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve let my mind wander to the worst.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been doing so much self reflecting these last few days. I&#8217;ve reached out to people I haven&#8217;t talked to in a long time. I&#8217;ve tried to make peace with people who I&#8217;ve been holding a grudge against.<\/p>\n<p>If anything good can come out of it, it&#8217;s the value of life.\u00a0 It&#8217;s realizing what is really important.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not stuff.\u00a0 It&#8217;s people.\u00a0 It&#8217;s caring about people.\u00a0 It&#8217;s showing kindness.\u00a0 It&#8217;s giving our time.<\/p>\n<p>My heart goes out to those who have lost a loved one to this horrible virus.\u00a0 There is no greater pain.<\/p>\n<p>I know it feels scary and uncertain.\u00a0 I also know that right now we need to be together in this.\u00a0 Can we leave the online hate alone?\u00a0 Can we stop lashing out at those who are working right now?\u00a0 Like the cashiers at the grocery store who are scared and anxious just being there.<\/p>\n<p>Kindness is what the world needs.\u00a0 Kindness is also contagious.<\/p>\n<p>We are on a mission right now.\u00a0 A mission to save lives.\u00a0 To take care of each other.\u00a0 And the best way to do that is to stay home.\u00a0 As much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>We need to follow the precautions put in place.\u00a0 As hard as it is.\u00a0 As sad as it might make us feel.<\/p>\n<p>My youngest daughter will be celebrating her 14th birthday and I&#8217;m not sure how to make it special for her.\u00a0 She will have a cake, but not sure what else.\u00a0 If she&#8217;s really lucky, I&#8217;ll master one of those Tik-Tok dances and show her my skills.\u00a0 (Kidding).<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re in this together and we will get through this together.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Strange isn&#8217;t it?
