{"id":8836,"date":"2020-04-23T14:14:55","date_gmt":"2020-04-23T18:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=8836"},"modified":"2020-04-23T14:42:48","modified_gmt":"2020-04-23T18:42:48","slug":"whats-it-like-where-you-are","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/04\/whats-it-like-where-you-are\/","title":{"rendered":"Working From Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just me again.<\/p>\n<p>Same spot.<\/p>\n<p>Different day.<\/p>\n<p>I had someone ask me yesterday &#8220;What&#8217;s it like\u00a0 working from home?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Depends on the day.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s funny, because I think we&#8217;ve all had that thought at some point &#8220;If I could just work from home!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not as easy as you would think.<\/p>\n<p>The first week was a taste of freedom.\u00a0 &#8220;I can wear whatever I want to work.\u00a0 Stay in my pj&#8217;s all day if I want to.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0No rushing around in the morning to get ready and out the door.<\/p>\n<p>It was ALMOST like being on vacation.<\/p>\n<p>The second week I was missing routine.\u00a0 I was missing co-workers.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t care about extra cups of coffee or trips to the kitchen for snacks.\u00a0\u00a0I was getting dressed, and doing hair and make-up just to feel like I had something to do.\u00a0 I was messaging co-workers just to say &#8220;Hi.\u00a0 Miss you.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0When there was an office call, and you heard another voice, you couldn&#8217;t help but smile.\u00a0 And to be honest, you&#8217;re still working.\u00a0 Maybe even MORE than before.<\/p>\n<p>I THINK this is week three.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m slacking in the getting dressed for work department.\u00a0 Sweatshirts, hoodies, &#8220;comfy&#8221; clothes rule the day.\u00a0 Ponytails.\u00a0 No makeup.\u00a0 I&#8217;m lacking focus.<\/p>\n<p>I feel so disconnected from the world &#8211; even through all the attempts at staying connected.<\/p>\n<p>I HATE video chats with a passion.\u00a0 \u00a0I cannot stand to see my face on that screen.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the most uncomfortable thing ever.\u00a0 \u00a0So I do my very best to avoid those wherever possible.<\/p>\n<p>And I think emotions are running high right now.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a long few weeks.\u00a0 I think we are all feeling stir crazy.\u00a0 I love my home.\u00a0 I love my family.\u00a0 I love the security that comes from being home.<\/p>\n<p>Family dinners, movie nights, conversations and laughs.\u00a0 All good. But there are days now where everybody scatters to their own space.\u00a0 There&#8217;s just so much family time we can all take (smile).<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure not making any progress in the cleaning department.\u00a0 My house is still a mess most of the time.\u00a0 I occasionally clean a closet or organize the pantry.\u00a0 Nothing profound like you see other people doing.<\/p>\n<p>You would think with all this extra time we&#8217;ve all been given, I would have done something incredible with it.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t even finish a jigsaw puzzle.<\/p>\n<p>I think deep down, we&#8217;re all carrying this underlying sense of worry and a bit of fear.\u00a0 It hides.\u00a0 Deep down inside.\u00a0 \u00a0It wears on you even if you don&#8217;t realize it.<\/p>\n<p>I think that&#8217;s why it&#8217;s so important to stick to some sort of routine, and keep reminding yourself of what you do have and what you are thankful for.<\/p>\n<p>I miss face to face conversations\u00a0 and eye contact.\u00a0\u00a0I miss hugs.\u00a0 I miss people.\u00a0 Even co-workers (smile)<\/p>\n<p>I miss the freedom of going to the store on a whim.\u00a0 I miss browsing at the grocery store.<\/p>\n<p>I miss walks at the end of a long day, where you aren&#8217;t anxious to see someone coming the other way, or avoiding you. I wonder if that sense of &#8220;you could be a carrier&#8221; look will ever truly go away.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m thankful that I have my job and I get the chance to work from home.\u00a0 I get to leave my desk and go check on my kids.\u00a0 I get to sit and have a coffee break with my husband.\u00a0 I get to get dinner started before my workday is even done.\u00a0 I have no commute home through busy traffic, and tailgaters, and other frustrations when out on the road.<\/p>\n<p>As was said by a good friend last night &#8220;<em><strong>It just shows how much we need people.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>A truer statement couldn&#8217;t be said.<\/p>\n<p>We need people.\u00a0 We need to feel connected.\u00a0 All those days complaining about busy workdays, counting the days til Friday &#8211; seem so far away.<\/p>\n<p>I like the comfort of working from home.\u00a0 I like that I am surrounded by my favourite things in my scrapbook room where I spend my day.\u00a0 I get cat cuddles whenever I want (as long as the cat says it&#8217;s ok).\u00a0 Because, cats.<\/p>\n<p>Lots to be thankful for but I sure hope this is over soon so we can all go back to normal.<\/p>\n<p>Complaining about work and co-workers included!\u00a0 (smile)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Just me again.
