If that&#8217;s even possible.<\/p>\n<p>Bad hair.\u00a0 Wearing my workout outfit to work.\u00a0 Being home.\u00a0 Not spending any money on stuff I don&#8217;t need.\u00a0 This situation has made me realize how wasteful I can be with my money.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re at a point now, where we&#8217;ve been doing this long enough, it&#8217;s becoming &#8220;normal&#8221;.\u00a0 We&#8217;re getting used to standing six feet apart at the grocery store.\u00a0 Nodding, or smiling to those we pass at a distance on the sidewalk.\u00a0 We&#8217;re getting used to curbside pickup and delivery.<\/p>\n<p>The fear, the sadness, the frustration.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve felt it all.<\/p>\n<p>Now we are just here.\u00a0 Waiting it out.\u00a0 Doing our part.\u00a0 We are finding new and creative ways to connect.\u00a0 Maybe less Facebook and more visiting from a distance at the end of a driveway.<\/p>\n<p>Somedays I feel ok.\u00a0 Other days I have moments where I can&#8217;t focus on anything and just want this to be over.<\/p>\n<p>At first, working from home, staying home &#8211; wasn&#8217;t bad.\u00a0 \u00a0It was almost like being on vacation.<\/p>\n<p>Sleeping in.\u00a0 Feeling rested &#8211; despite the circumstances.\u00a0 I enjoyed the freedom of working from home.\u00a0 Staying in comfy clothes.\u00a0 No makeup.\u00a0 Coffee as much as I wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Those first weeks at home was a break we didn&#8217;t know we needed.<\/p>\n<p>We went back to old recipes, feel good recipes.\u00a0 We went back to simpler days.\u00a0 Jigsaw puzzles took our weekend afternoons.\u00a0 We went for bike rides.\u00a0 We enjoyed the sound of the birds singing as we sipped our morning coffee. Family dinners were back.\u00a0 We talked more.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of spending time separated by our phones to distract us, we were spending more time together.\u00a0 Connecting in a bigger way.\u00a0 We were intentional with our time.\u00a0 We cleaned and organized.\u00a0 We looked at the &#8220;stuff&#8221; in our homes and wondered why we had it.<\/p>\n<p>We started to realize what mattered.\u00a0 WHO mattered.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t celebrities.\u00a0 Or professional athletes.<\/p>\n<p>It was our family and friends.\u00a0 It was those on the front lines.<\/p>\n<p>We realized how valuable those health care workers were yes &#8211; but suddenly we realized how valuable those working at the grocery stores were .\u00a0 We had a new appreciation for those people still going to work.\u00a0 Behind the cash, or the wheel of a transport truck.\u00a0 Farmers.\u00a0 Delivery drivers.\u00a0 Mail carriers. Too many people to mention.<\/p>\n<p>As the weeks went on it got a bit more challenging.<\/p>\n<p>We weren&#8217;t thinking about &#8220;stuff&#8221;.\u00a0 We just wanted to be allowed to see our family and friends again.<\/p>\n<p>Dealing with bad hair.\u00a0 People doing their own cuts.<\/p>\n<p>My hair is growing out and most days I throw it in a ponytail and pretend it&#8217;s not out of control.<\/p>\n<p>My eyebrows are patchy.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not pretty.<\/p>\n<p>My days of wearing makeup or &#8220;fixing my face&#8221; are few and far between &#8211; and I don&#8217;t miss it.<\/p>\n<p>Somedays I feel accomplished.\u00a0 Somedays I don&#8217;t even remember if I brushed my teeth. Somedays I&#8217;m\u00a0 productive.\u00a0 Somedays I have to ask Alexa what day it is.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an amazing time for self reflection.\u00a0 I listened to <a href=\"https:\/\/omny.fm\/shows\/oprah-s-supersoul-conversations\/dr-alan-lightman-how-to-lead-a-less-hurried-life\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oprah&#8217;s Super Soul Conversations podcast &#8211;<\/a> she talks to a doctor that says it&#8217;s forced us to sit still and slow down.<\/p>\n<p>And despite all the sadness out there &#8211; the loss of lives, jobs and so much more &#8211; THAT is a positive thing to come out of this.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve come to realize I really don&#8217;t have that busy of a social life. I don&#8217;t mind the staying home and I don&#8217;t mind the quiet.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve realized that some people I expected to hear from or stay in touch with &#8211; have been silent.\u00a0Distant.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve realized I have said no to too many people and events.\u00a0 And I would gladly say yes to anything with my friends right now. No more hiding behind excuses. #toobusy<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m wondering if I will even remember how to be with people?\u00a0 I say that with a laugh.\u00a0 But I&#8217;m a shy person.\u00a0 I have had to fight that all my life and working in radio, I had to work hard to break that.\u00a0 I feel myself going back to those shy ways.<\/p>\n<p>Anybody else hoping that we keep some of this &#8220;new normal&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Anybody else getting comfortable with this &#8220;new normal&#8221;?\u00a0 Because I am.
