{"id":9821,"date":"2020-05-28T16:53:29","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T20:53:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/?p=9821"},"modified":"2020-05-28T17:19:01","modified_gmt":"2020-05-28T21:19:01","slug":"the-view-from-here-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briwebapp.net\/cfgxfm\/blogs\/afternoons\/2020\/05\/the-view-from-here-7\/","title":{"rendered":"The View From Here &#8211; Gardening Tricks, Quarantine Body Shaming, And Stop Ruining Your Burgers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you have a green thumb?\u00a0 Do you have a love of gardening?\u00a0 I love flowers and plants, but not sure I&#8217;m all that good at it.\u00a0 Maybe light green thumb?\u00a0 I think my love of gardening came from visits to my great gramma&#8217;s farm.\u00a0 I remember so many beautiful gardens.\u00a0 Vegetable gardens and so many flowers.\u00a0 Glads &#8211; hundreds of them.\u00a0 And the most beautiful rose garden.<\/p>\n<p>I remember those visits so vividly.\u00a0 My mom loved her flower gardens too, so I come by it naturally.\u00a0 I may not be the best or have the greenest thumb &#8211; but I try.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-9826\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.briwebapp.net\/2020\/05\/e24e6af1-nana.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"171\" height=\"228\" \/>And I love to learn new tips and tricks.\u00a0 Like <a href=\"https:\/\/bestplants.com\/coffee-grounds-roses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adding banana peels and coffee grinds to your garden<\/a>.\u00a0 Did you know they are great to add to your roses?\u00a0 Add them directly to your garden, and around your roses.<\/p>\n<p>The secret to a beautiful garden, is in the soil.\u00a0 Compost helps to build the soil, adding nutrients.\u00a0 An organic fertilizer.\u00a0 Coffee and banana peels are great additions &#8211; that you can add directly to the soil &#8211; WITHOUT the compost pile.\u00a0 As they break down, they add important nutrients like nitrogen, and potassium.\u00a0 Which give you better blooms.\u00a0 Potassium strengthens the roses, prevents yellow leaves with brown edges and underdeveloped buds.<\/p>\n<p>Coffee contains small amounts of nitrogen.\u00a0 It lightens the soil around the plant.\u00a0 Attracts worms that aerate and loosen the soil.\u00a0 AND helps keep pests away.<\/p>\n<p>You can ALSO add epsom salts, crushed eggshells, and orange peels. Saving you money on fertilizer and promoting &#8220;green&#8221; gardening.\u00a0 \u00a0I&#8217;m pretty sure my neighbours laugh when they see me dumping coffee grinds and banana peels and egg shells in my garden.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s hoping for beautiful blooms on my roses this year.<\/p>\n<p>Some of us have gained a few extra pounds during this whole &#8220;quarantine&#8221; time.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not hard.\u00a0 I know I have gravitated towards comfort foods.\u00a0 Lots of baking too.\u00a0 Now that I can find flour again.\u00a0 Cookies. Pie.\u00a0 Apple crisp.\u00a0 Yesterday I made cookies, ate half the raw cookie dough, and ate cookies for breakfast.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t judge me.\u00a0 I ate cookie dough when I was a kid, and I&#8217;m still living and breathing.\u00a0 But with all the extra pounds, and comfort food, comes the body shaming online.\u00a0 One woman is taking a stand against the pandemic body-shamers.\u00a0 Photographer Anastasia Garcia created the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/body-positive-instagram-project-coronavirus_n_5ecd64dcc5b66bb55e1e1043?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000046&amp;utm_source=women_fb&amp;utm_campaign=hp_fb_pages&amp;utm_medium=facebook&amp;fbclid=IwAR1h1aG8jERU9Oy2Hr1OY2O1UUFhPqijjBhQa90Qc5I6QoOnfHrbj__vm5o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> #MyQuarantineBody<\/a> campaign to spread a message of empowerment and kindness.\u00a0 She encourages women to share their own pictures and celebrate who they are as they are, right now.\u00a0 \u00a0For Anastasia, the goal is to empower women.\u00a0 &#8220;Nobody can tell you how to feel about your body \u2015 only you can decide that.
