George Strait Hinting At Retirement
May 14, 2025 10:30 amGeorge Strait turns 73 this Sunday, but don’t expect him to stop touring next week, or even next year.
At a show in Philadelphia on Saturday, May 10, he took a minute to talk about how much he loves playing live, and how long he thinks he’ll keep doing it.
George said he thinks he might have “five good years” left to keep touring, so he would be 78 when he calls it quits.
He also laughed at how lucky he’s been so far, though, and how LONG he’s been at it.
George said he’s been up on stage for around FIFTY years now and still loves it as much as ever.
His first studio album “Strait Country” came out 44 years ago in 1981, but he’s been playing shows since he was in the Army in the early ’70s. So, OVER 50 years.

And George is still putting butts in seats. He broke a U.S. record last summer when over 110,000 fans turned out for a show at Texas A&M.)
